I have been wondering about this exactly. Running PE, top layer of coir at spawning the tub. Then I cased with pasteurized Jiffy at 100%. Maybe just ahead of knots starting or just a few. I think it was day 9 after spawning. The problem is that the only Jiffy that I can find anywhere has coir in it.

So now my tub seems to have to recolonize the casing. We are back to knotting again now, 6 days later.

So should I be waiting longer towards more knotting before casing or just keep looking for non-coir Jiffy 50+ and toss out the coir Jiffy as a case? This is my first late cased PE tub, so I guess I will find out in a few more days to a week.
This coir Jiffy worked great on a cased jar that has given me 5 flushes and is still going. Latest “flush”.

I spray anything going into my SAB with iso, but don’t necessarily wipe. The wiping can undo the spraying, and iso evaporates so why bother.

I usually go with a top layer at the moment of spawn/fruiting of coir, verm and a little bit of diatomatious earth (to combat the fruitflies, gnats)

DE only works when dry. A drop of peppermint oil in a spray bottle wins.

Iso need to be wiped to kill shit properly that's y it's called rubbing alcohol but 10% bleach spray works without wiping but it takes 15-20 minutes to work properly

This part is completely untrue: “The term "rubbing alcohol" came into prominence in North America in the mid-1920s. The original rubbing alcohol was literally used as a liniment for massage; hence the name. The name "rubbing" also emphasized that the alcohol was not intended for consumption, a significant distinction in Prohibition-era America.”
As for whether it’s ineffective unless rubbed/wiped against the surface, I can’t find anything on the subject. I know for a fact that I’ve watched tutorials from huge commercial growers where they spray (no wipe) bags, scissors, tubs, etc. Not saying that proves one way or the other, but just letting you know it wasn’t something I pulled outta my ass.

When you take into account exactly how rubbing alcohol kills bacteria (slowly invades the outer shell and coagulates it) and why it’s effective vs “pure” alcohol which works too quickly to actually kill bacteria (coagulates the outer shell leaving the bacteria protected inside), I can’t imagine why anything more than contact is necessary, and that prolonged contact from spray through evaporation would actually be beneficial.
I can certainly see how wiping is a more effective application method than spraying in some circumstances. For example, cleaning the lip of an open jar is better with a wipe because you don’t want to spray alcohol into the jar. But if my only concern is killing bacteria on a surface, I can’t think of any reason wiping would be better than spraying, and I can think of a few reasons it might be worse.

I've heard several smart lab type people say to wipe in one direction after alcoholing something up. I don't remember where I heard it just that I have and then remembered having heard it before as well. I got herb memory.
