You can steam sterilize spawn, it's done all of the time. Steam cabinets are pretty easy to build. You could do 150 bags at a time should you want.

100c or 212f for 24 hours is usually recommended for no pressure steam sterilizing

Anybody use an instant pot for sterilizing agar? I read 45 minutes would be fine for 11 psi but I figured I’d ask before I wasted a batch of agar. Babysitting the presto is a nice excuse to get high and read but sometimes I gotta do other shit, ya know lol.

I'd do something more like this though. I like the idea of a separate steam generator because you can attach it to anything you want, it's scalable.
Why use a round drum when you can connect the steam generator to a square metal cabinet with shelves, or whatever your imagination can come up with.

Works great for sawdust. I once added 20 some bags of grain to sawdust run. A few contammed right away, a few later. And a few looked great until they were fully colonized. In the end, they all tapped out. Nothing compares to pressure. Just build an autoclave if your pc isn't big enough.

Spawn is 100% doable in a steamer. https://www.shroomery.org/forums/showflat.php/Number/24097574#24097574

I've done about 5 batches of agar in an instant pot, 20 minutes each time. No issue with contamination.

I could listen to that guy all day. Something about the kiwi accent that just kills me.
Also this seems way more efficient than PCing and now I want to build one!

I agree, the accent has a hint of south African almost. Yeah I'm in the process of gathering all of the brewery equipment for converting a 30 gal SS drum into a steam generator. For the actual sterilizer I'm thinking something more like a square or rectangular metal cabinet with shelves, something a bit smaller but quite similar to what's in this video. Skip to 2:48 to see what I'm talking about.
Or like this:
These PP bins are cheaper than a 55 gal SS drum.

Schweet, I’ll probably do 30 just to be safe.

You can carmelize the sugars in your agar. So no more than 45, I usually run about 15-20 at 15. So if 11 pi is your highest temp go 30-45.
