I would give it a bit more time, I see too many uncolonised patches. Im not a G2G kinda guy (yet) but I'd say thats enough for anywhere between 5-8 donor jars. Stretching it thinner would probably too slow to be worth it.

Don't add anything to the grain. Isn't needed. Especially not lime.

I returned mine for an exchange when it bubbled out like that.
What happened? How did the towel catch fire? Sheesh. Hope everything is good

I use mine on the electric stove. You use flame that might be your reason?

Steamed off all the water and just “cooked” the metal, is my guess. No idea about safety, but you’ll find it much harder getting a boil going without proper surface contact due to the misshapen metal. Sorry man, that sucks.

I can tell you why it happened. You ran out of water. That is the only way it is physically possible for the towel to scorch and the bags to melt. 3 hours is a long time for a PC that vents steam as it runs. You should tape a quarter or 2 to the weight so no steam is released during operation so you dont run out of water while maintaining a good 15psi. (You need to adjust the heat to stay at 15-17 psi and monitor it) Also it is 10000% un-necessary to put a towel around the bags (unless you run out of water) I absolutely promise you ive done so so many.

When I run my Presto, luckily when it gets up to pressure turning the burner to low, it maintains a gentle hissing, rocking weight sound. So if that sound stopped, I'd be ONNIT!

Hope farm n fleet takes it back lol . I highly doubt it tho man And the flame could definitely be the reason that sucks cus I have to pc on these burners ...
@ phro it just so happens that my burner has a opening in the middle I think my bowed out pc will fit right in .. super dangerous I prob won’ do it lol
@sandman420 that sounds reasonable. do u use a presto ? And share your bag tek if u dint mind I’m gonna give it a try also. See if it Works for me .

There is no problem using a flame burner stove. You wouldn't want to use a fuckoff big high pressure propane turkey fryer type burner on a presto with bags though. Just make sure the flame isn't lapping up the sides when it's on high.
Ive used a presto before for many years. My bag tek is pretty simple. Load the bag with substrate/spawn (i do 4 actual quarts grain spawn in a large sized 0.5 unicorn bag) tuck the top under the bag, and load it in the PC. Vent the PC first and 3-3.5 @15psi hours. Then let cool for many hours before removing the bags to a shelf to finish cooling then to the flowhood for inoc with whatever.

Lol that’s exactly what I use ... the turkey burner 2 actually. They were pretty cheep And I’m going to make grain bags for spawn . Not substrate will the same principles apply ?

Yea i just do grain spawn thats what i meant, either or though. A smaller turkey fryer is acceptable but a larger one will be a bitch to keep low enough when you want to maintain heat on a small little presto. More of a home to a 941 sized cooker but still overkill. Just keep the flames off the side and see if you can keep the heat low enough with a weight added to the weight to maintain 15-17 psi and if so you are good. Definitely trash that presto though bro and get a new one it is unsafe now

Tru tru thanks for the info . I prob can’t use a presto with bags on this burner if I get another presto it most likely gonna do the same thang. That’s sucks

Operator error. If they know any better they shouldn't return it because you ran out of water

Yeah you should still be able to use it as long as it will still seal. Might not sit on a glass top stove. But yes you cooked off the water.
Either way no big deal toss those oats and start over.

What does your weight/steam controller do when the required pressure (15psi) has been reached and the PC should maintain it for 3 hours? I reckon that your weight is not heavy enough and/or flame(or electric heater) is too hot.
Have a look here - a while ago someone in this very thread was having issues with PC running out of water, in this link there are two great examples how it should NOT look like. When tweaked right it should let a few small hisses per minute while maintaining required pressure:

I boiled dry my 1st presto and the bottom bowed a bit. I flipped it over, placed a 2x4 over the bottom and smacked it good with a mallet and it flattened back out.
I still use it today every cycle and it's been through literally hundreds of cycles since then. Now I've read lots of reasons why you shouldn't do this, but it worked for me
