each transfer you take from a clone will by slightly different. environmental conditions also affect the grow more than people realize. i've been working with the same clone for a few years and each grow looks different. mostly because of environmental conditions like amount of water in the substrate or casing, whether i mist or not, how much i fan the tubs, temperature, humidity, and airflow in the room. but a few things are the same in every grow (with the same clone) and that's fruiting power, colonization rate, and potency. that's what really matters IMO.

it doesn't matter. do enough transfers until you know it's clean. a culture won't degrade noticeably even after 10-20 transfers. the worst thing you can do is slant a dirty culture.

at first i thought this was a really dumb question but tbh i don't know. i haven't noticed any changes with the phases of the moon now that i think about it. i don't see why that would have any effect.

I'm sure it has nothing to do with gravity, just with the amount of light in the sky at night

When u say about 3 or 4 to know its clean you can tell by just looking at it right? Most of the time when I do transfers from fruit tissue I cant see anything but myc no mold or bacteria how do you exactly tell its clean personally? Or do u just do a couple extra transfers to make sure and when you take transfers you use the outer most (newest) myc or do u go for the middle?

The moon has a definite influence on the earth. Maybe it pulls mushrooms towards it when its full.

yea you can tell just by looking at it. once you get some more experience cleaning up cultures it'll be really easy. yes you take transfers from the outer most (newest) myc, not the middle. make sure you are choosing the fastest and most aggressive growth too. just to be safe i usually do one more transfer after it looks clean.

The 3-4 transfers I was talking about was just to narrow down genetics enough to get consistent results.
It takes a lot of time to spot contam, I’m just now feeling like I have some semblance of that ability.
I learned mostly from keeping contam plates and watching them grow. You’ll see tiny bright spots/bumps where there’s bacteria under the myc. It’ll switch to a totally different kind of growth when it hits a mold colony.
The slight contamination is the hard stuff.

What do you mean by you grafted the mushroom? It looks like you just stuck a cake and another sub together?

Pretty much it just grew on there and I cut the cake away from it and left the pin on there. I thought it was cool. Its bigger now than in the pics.

The moon has an affect on everything. Everything with water. Luna-tic. Crazy during full moon. Werewolf. It control's ocean waves, crops, ect. Why wouldn't it have an effect on water fill mushrooms?
I feel like it does but with out research we dont know.
I have cloned a clone once. It changed it but it is a very impressive culture.
I've done it a few times with other varieties also. I mainly do it to save a culture from extinction. Like I tossed all other plates and I dont want to lose the culture.
Each transfer from a clone plate does look different grown out. I mean a clone is more than one strain still right? So it makes sense.
Oh what fun this research is.
