Couple questions-
1) I have two tubs ready to fruit. Was thinking about casing but have read that casings can get contaminated (though this is often due to contaminated spawn). Don't want to spark anything about casing vs not casing for cubes. The only thing turning me off is potential contamination. I wanted to use the remainder (2qt) of my substrate (coir/verm/gypsum) that I have left over. I pasteurized it for an hour at ~150 degrees. Do lime/gypsum neutralize the case enough that molds won't grow?
2) Lighting for the fruiting stage. Was planning on just using natural light by the window. Is indoor lighting better? And if so what kind?

Casing is optional but I would put that extra cvg on top of your sub. I find the extra layer makes for a more user-friendly tub as far as misting and fresh air is concerned as well as a good microclimate for pins. It shouldn't contaminate if it's coir based and your spawn is clean and you don't have to properly pasteurize coir anyway, although it is good practice.
Natural light is good or you can use normal 6500k CFLs
Good luck on your grow!

If you are just growing regular cubes and you already spawned and taped until full colonization, and you think you can maintain constant beads of moisture on the surface, then just leave it and do that. Casing with perfect field capacity cvg can help make it a maintenance free flush for you potentially.
Fully colonized substrate will not contaminate from casing.
Natural light is better imo

Appreciate the feedback
I went ahead and cased it. I will let colonize 25-30% and then just let it fruit by the window.

If you have the tape on still, rip that bs off. Stuff your bottom tight with poly and medium on top. Now fruit by the window

With a CVG casing I wouldn't let the casing colonize at all before fruiting. Just fruit it now.

I was reading an old thread about how a tbs of used coffee could be put in grain jars for a little boost. I don't fuck with coffee much, sometimes I soak my grains with some leftover diluted coffee but thats about it. Any thoughts?
My most recent batch is growing much stronger and faster, so maybe I should do coffee soaks more often.

I add a quart of bran and a 1/2 pint of fresh unrewarded coffee grounds to every 10 qt batch of grain spawn.

I don't soak my oats, I just boil for around 20 pour in the strainer shake the excess water out and load wet, but If there is some coffee in the pot when I am prepping I'll pour a few cups in my boil water.
I'd love to find some bran, my TSC sucks, maybe they can order some for me. Sometimes my oats are so dusty it's like they already have bran mixed in

I'm going to have to find a new bran source when this bag runs out. My TSC turned into a Pevymart.

You can find wheat bran flakes at whole foods if you're desperate. I don't know what they charge for bulk though.

50lbs of wheat bran was around $6 at TSC. I doubt I can get it that cheap at whole foods. We don't even have whole foods.

Now whole foods here either, BFE Kentucky. Not even a big farming area, there is another TSC 30 min away that just got built haven't been in that one yet.
I'd love to get hooked up with a farmer for rye or wheat and cut out the middle man, if they owned horses too they would be my best friend.

I know a lot of farmers. The place I live in is nicknamed the wheat city. I don't know why I still pay retail for all my materials.
