In you guys opinion what is a better option for working around needing lots of jars but not having alot of agar dishes I'm thinking 1 of 2 options
1- use a colonized agar plate to make 10 grain jars then put those 10 to 100
2- use a colonized agar plate to make 5 grain jars put those 5 to 50 then those 50 to more grain jars

There's no right way. Depends how many clean agar plates you have and how confident you are that your grain master jars will be clean enough to g2g. If you are just starting off, I'd recommend making more grain master jars than you think you may need cause chances are a few of them will go bad.

You can make your own. Peat moss and vermiculite with a little garden lime as a PH buffer. I would Pasteurize it though.

You need hydrated lime garden lime is the wrong stuff too much magnesium.

What happens when you have to much magnesium? Basically you want calcium carbonate to act as a PH buffer in the peat right? So hydrated lime is a building agent that lacks magnesium, it is made up of calcium hydroxide. It has a larger buffer rating so you need less of it to achieve the desired PH. But I don't see why either one wouldn't work.

Not sure it's always been common knowledge that garden lime isn't the right stuff rather that is old and outdated or not who knows. Some of the reasoning I've read is that magnesium is bad for mycelium, that it causes a hot casing(not sure why exactly this is bad) I've read also that garden lime is not water soluble and it basically time released so the pH buffering is not readily available and takes alot of time to work.
I've also read that some garden limes have lower magnesium content and will work but must be finely ground to work well in a casing.
I did some research because I bought the wrong stuff. This is some of the reasoning I read for not using it. It seems like everyone that has ever asked if it was ok to use was met with negative answers and was told it won't work. It may work, may work ok or may not work at all. I couldn't say from first hand knowledge, because I figured why not just go buy the right stuff and I donated the garden lime to a friend who does community gardens.

Well shit. I smell an experiment! Gonna use this bad ass blobby Amazon culture and case it with peat/verm/garden lime....

Ok I see so basically keep the g2g transfers to a minimum and try to use as many a2g transfers as possible can I need to order more agar plates they are so expensive where I am like 10$ for 1

No I didn't mean to keep a2g to a minimum. Just saying that to do g2g well, your master jar(s) needs to be clean. Since you're starting out, it's fairly likely that you will have a few jars, at least, that are contaminated. Therefore, it wouldn't be a bad idea to a2g some more jars than you planned, assuming you have enough clean plates to do that. Don't use up all of your plates because if your grain jars get fucked, you want to have some jars to fall back on. Also, what kind of plates are you using?

Sockadin I will look forward to seeing it.
I say to be fair you should include hydrated lime casing and do a couple side by sides. That way if one does perform alot better we know. It's your experiment I'm not trying to tell you how to do it just a suggestion.

I looked at the no pour thanks for sharing that but I dont seem to have a problem with pouring my plates they almost never get contaminated and I like to use glass because ik paranoid and I like to sterilize the absolute shit out of them in foil in the oven and I dont trust pre sterilized things but thanks for letting me know it is an option at least

Oh yeah it would be a side by side for sure. I have hydrated lime, but for construction purposes not mycology.

This is my first time with lions mane, I’m about half way through colonizing the spawn jar.

I’m gonna use a bag of sawdust and bran to fruit it.

I am still new here and trying to navigate this forum. It is Much different then the Cannabis forums I am on.

Anyway, I got my spores and my substrate and grain bags are coming from one of the sponsors here, ********. I am going to try their method they use. It is on their website. This is the method I will be trying. Any tip help or even just good conversation would be Cool

I guess what I will be trying is a Bulk grow in a mono tub. I am going to make everything as cleaned as possible using alcohol and do it on the kitchen table after I clean it off really good. I hope I can get some to grow.... I am looking forward to my first trip.

Firstly, it's against the rules here to mention sponsor names, so you may want to edit that out.
Second, I watched enough of the video to see that they don't quite know what they're talking about. Eg, spray paint the bottom half of the tub to prevent sidepins. This is bad info from maybe 15 years ago.
My suggestion is to do your own reading, right here, where the most up to date info is hashed out on a daily basis.
