Got my first PE grow going. When and what are you all casing with? I have some dried dried out peat casing in one tub, can I just bring it back to field capacity or do I need to repasteurize?
Will a coir pseudocasing work? Because I'd rather deal with coir. Peat is just too much work and another tub taking up space.

I'm not in the US, so I can't get any jiffy mix. There might be some equivalents, but I don't really want to bother searching for that.

You can make your own. Peat moss and vermiculite with a little garden lime as a PH buffer. I would Pasteurize it though.

That's what I have in a tub, except for verm, but it's completely dried out. I guess I'll remoisturize and pasteurize again.

Do you all prefer A2G, G2G, or LC? I'm wondering if it's worth the time to noc up a master jar before I make the rest

I really like going a2g then g2g but I've been experimenting with LC lately. My hate for LC is slowly dwindling. It's pretty all right.

OK. I got a small bag of millet to make a master jar with. Also, maybe a stupid question, but you can make agar with just boiled potato water right? Should I add honey or anything?

Me too gizmo.
I switched my whole lc program up and my first run with the new methods all five jars finished in 5-7 days.
It’s so nice when it works like that, normally id just be about to shake an a2g jar.
G2g I normally do if I don’t have enough myc to do the jars I want.
I’ve been doing super heavy g2g pours lately too that finish up in a week.
Really though good lc is the best. This last round with whyte gold I went from plate to spawning 5 jars in 12 days. 5 for the lc to grow and 7 for the jars to colonize.

Has anyone ever heard of Damn Filters. They have cheaper prices for HEPA filters (But I think it's a 4 week lag time which doesn't matter). Am I missing something that would make this not work for a FH?
https://damnfilters.com/products/hepa-filter-24-x-24-x-6-700-cfm-99-99-particle-board?variant=31523262136381¤cy=USD&utm_medium=product_sync&utm_source=google&utm_content=sag_organic&utm_campaign=sag_organic&gclid=Cj0KCQjwlN32BRCCARIsADZ-J4t9rgYnEdlhIOv8Pl_eUlSsJS5gRQ93Wz8_hVkRpwm2TZnOcQnClkoaAhzvEALw_wcB
Also, I know some website custom build filters once you put in the order. Are those filters normally cheaper or more expensive than the companies that keep a lot of them in stock?

When I used PDA, sometimes I would add a drop of honey but not always. Doesn't really matter IMO.

What happens when you have to much magnesium? Basically you want calcium carbonate to act as a PH buffer in the peat right? So hydrated lime is a building agent that lacks magnesium, it is made up of calcium hydroxide. It has a larger buffer rating so you need less of it to achieve the desired PH. But I don't see why either one wouldn't work.

Not sure it's always been common knowledge that garden lime isn't the right stuff rather that is old and outdated or not who knows. Some of the reasoning I've read is that magnesium is bad for mycelium, that it causes a hot casing(not sure why exactly this is bad) I've read also that garden lime is not water soluble and it basically time released so the pH buffering is not readily available and takes alot of time to work. I've also read that some garden limes have lower magnesium content and will work but must be finely ground to work well in a casing. I did some research because I bought the wrong stuff. This is some of the reasoning I read for not using it. It seems like everyone that has ever asked if it was ok to use was met with negative answers and was told it won't work. It may work, may work ok or may not work at all. I couldn't say from first hand knowledge, because I figured why not just go buy the right stuff and I donated the garden lime to a friend who does community gardens.

Yea he once disappeared for like a month everyone thought he had been busted. Once he showed back up we found out his ferret had spilled something on his laptop so he had no way to access shroomery.

In you guys opinion what is a better option for working around needing lots of jars but not having alot of agar dishes I'm thinking 1 of 2 options 1- use a colonized agar plate to make 10 grain jars then put those 10 to 100 2- use a colonized agar plate to make 5 grain jars put those 5 to 50 then those 50 to more grain jars
