Even though I’ve been working on my sterile technique for months 10 days for fruits seems like an eternity lmao

Ten days is if youre lucky too.
Couple months ago I had two shoeboxes take 22 and 31 days to pin. And not PE either it was ridiculous.
I’d say most of them pin between 11-15 days for me.

Totally depends on the culture too.. a MAZ culture I had started knotting in a week, but the spawn ratio was like 1.5:1 spawn/CV too.. lots of factors in play

I should’ve been more clear, I meant I cased the jar and was just planning on top fruiting it lol. I’d rather put it to a shoebox but I’m not sure it’ll recover cause it doesn’t really wanna budge when I shake the jar. Didn’t smell rank when I opened it at least but I still don’t trust it.

It feels evil to just clean the stuff out and let it go down the drain Or just out on the lawn using the hose. I don't know how this jar came about, very very forgetful, so let's call it xan cyan. I got no legit compost or manure right now, should I throw some black cow in the jar and should I pasteurize it 1st? And I'm in a cold climate in the Winter Connecticut so it won't survive the Winter.... what would you guys do?

Even after dumping my colonized grain out of the jar to mix, just seeing the little clumps a white on the side of the jar makes me feel Like an enemy of nature while cleaning it out

I buried a bacterial jar in a house plant last year, and the 1st pin popped up earlier this week

I could be wrong, ha!, but I have to dig my spawn out of the jars. I use a long plastic knife from Presto. At 100%+ I even have to break it up in the shoe box.

Yeah I always have to dig my spawn out and break most of it by hand too. But I don’t even bother shaking it first I just open it and start poking at it.
Vinnie id def try that with the black kow.
I use sterilized steer manure compost and the little grow in my signature was about as much spawn as you have in that jar.
I was really surprised how little spawn pans need.

I thought a tell tale sign of bacterial spawn was clumping of the grains? I know there’s always SOME bacteria in spawn but if it doesn’t wanna break up then it’s too much to recover from most of the time. That’s what I’ve heard at least but keep in mind I haven’t successfully grown anything yet lmao

Hey everyone,
How long should I grow these plates out before fridging them? I decided to do agar to grain master to grain. I already have three jars inoculated and growing at the moment and these are my extra plates.

When I fridge them, is there anything special I need to do? Just throw them in an insulated container and put them in the back of the fridge?
and some fuzzy bois:

edit: Oh and to add: How long do grain jars last before they need to be used? My jars are about a week in and I was wondering if I should just do a fresh batch of jars for the grain to grain or if they'll last two or three weeks.

Hi there, first time with agar, would appreciate your thoughts on these two plates!
These are both transfer 2 from a clone. The clone was originally grown out on MEA 2%. T1 was to the same medium. These two plates are transferred from the same sector. Plate 2 is MEA 2% again - the myc is very translucent but seems healthy to my untrained eye.
Plate 1 is new formulation agar; potato malt extract 2%. It is quite nutrient rich would that explain the tomentose form? I think it looks clean but could be wildly missing something.
Do you think they’re ready to go to grains? TIA

If I want to add silica packs in my mason jars filled with dried mushrooms, do I tape it on top of the lid or make sure it's in contact with the mushrooms near the center of the jar?

Bacterial spawn indeed doesn't break up for shit, but especially when you're working with a bunch of large jars that are full from g2g and fairly-well-consolidated, all the spawn just doesn't pour out perfectly. Instead of banging the shit out of them to loosed the spawn, it's just easier to scoop out what doesn't come out clean after a good tap to the bottom/edge. Most of my spawn comes out like a dream sans say 10-20%, but not always. Also, the choice of grain used to make the spawn makes a small but noticable difference in reference to how easily it breaks up/pours.

Yeah, spoon it out. IME, it recovers faster than from shaking too.

Man now I don’t know if my jar is bacterial or just heavily consolidated lmao. Jk it’s definitely bacterial near the bottom, too much li I guess, could’ve also had bacteria on my agar and not noticed it . I’ve got two more coming along that I’m not 100 percent sure of from the same li. There’s no wet spot on these but I’m still iffy on identifying clean spawn.

If you poured a lot of li it’s probably just crazy dense myc in the bottom.
The bottom of my jars always come out in pretty big chunks no matter what.

The first one has a spot up against the glass near the bottom that just won’t colonize but the rest look pretty decent as far as I can tell. I’ll probably end up spawning em just on the off chance it isn’t super bacterial, not gonna hold my breath though lol.

I notice when I pour LC I get some dense growth in the bottom that takes a little extra shaking.
