Yea the plastic ones can be a bitch. I just had a nightmare with overtightened metal once. Flipped metal lids can be especially hard to get off if overtightened.
I've found regular mouth to be way less prone to overtightening for whatever reason.
I really like regular mouth with plastic lids.

You guys read my question right. I was just curious if with the lid and ring on I wasn't sure if the grains would get PC'd enough because it seams like when the lid and ring on it is almost sealed air tight.

Sounds like I can tighten it pretty tight with no issue so I will just leave the ring loose.

Thanks trip team fam!

yeah, theyre mainly what I have.  if I overtighten them I just tap the edges with my scalpel handle a few times and they loosen right up

Just tap them with a scalpel? Would that work with media bottles as well? I fucked up my hands on media bottle that was screwed on too tight improperly.

I usually use screw on modified lids. I have some non widemouth jars. Do you guys PC with the lid but no ring or do you just screw the ring on loosely to PC?

Bumping my question. Any advice?

I'm not sure I understand the question but you must use a band with the metal lids. Just leave the band pretty damn loose while pcing slightest pressure any more is overtighting.

When you say "sealed air tight" you don't mean that you have unmodified lids and are screwing them on tight, do you? Do your lids include a hole stuff with poly or SFD to allow the pressure to equalize?

Looking good. After a few months of trying and having to go back to spores a few times, I think I finally have some RW cultures clean enough to go to grain soon. Stored the print improperly and it got dirty af. I'm pumped. Never had the chance to mess with RW much.

Made my first transfers tonight from my MS plates. Two new plates. The first one went really smoothly I think and it was from the nicest looking myc. The second one I had a lot of trouble getting it off the scalpel. Hopefully nothing nasty got in with it. Hoping to be noccing up some grains in a week or two.

Picking some tubs today or tomorrow, spawning my first APE tubs ever and doing some agar work at some point today. Also need to go get 12-18lbs of Rye so I can make up another 24-36 qts.

Recently just replaced the carpet in the lab/office with laminate flooring so I feel the need to be super productive seeing as I have had everything out waiting for the process to be somewhat complete.

For me, there is still something magical about picking mushrooms that are growing outside..

One of my tubs produced a shitty flush with small, weak shrooms, so I dumped the substrate outside.
Here was the poor flush...

After a few heavy rains outside I got this...

Note the difference in size.  I am almost certain that the potency of the outdoor flush will be much higher, but I will keep you posted.

No way to tell for sure.. sometimes they can pin earlier than healthy subs, but the general timeframe is between 10-14 days
