Condensation can easily spread satelite contaminant colonies, and it makes visibility more difficult... if your culture is clean and you dont mind the droplets, not an issue
I fan dry my oats until they rattle again...

Solid info on the condensation.
Wit the oats tho ur saying dry them until they sound the same as they do fresh out the bag?

You want the inside hydrated and the outside almost completely dry: you want them to rattle freely in the jar/bag... excess moisture on the surface almost always spells bacterial infection with oats... note the center photo of my signature, those are prepped and ready to be loaded: dry, no sheen

I said that same thing about a month ago and was ridiculed, for saying I leave my hydrated oats in a colander for a few days to dry the hulls. But I have found that if I load my jars before 2 or 3 days I get wet jars and poor colonization.

I fan dry in a few hours... sitting for days runs risk of fermenting... will produce less than optimal results from my understanding

They don't ferment they just dry, I have bit into a few oats and they don't have that bitter taste like something that was fermenting and they don't smell. Then they go into the pc. Im sure if I put a fan on them it would happen faster but its what I have found to work best for me. Id rather be to dry than to wet any day.

Yeah me too. The sub has shrank more than normal tubs do. So, I bottom watered a little bit. Hopefully they all will mature same rate. I'm try to get 90% before veil tears.

Nothing like the trauma of a half aborted fat pinset.

I did a run of fermented oats. Honestly compared to this batch being slowly agar colonized they seemed pretty fast.

Does anyone know what the clear myc ring like half a mm outside of white mycellium on an agar plate is called? I've heard people call it microscopic myc or some other shit, but I've never known if there was a more technical term for it.

Thereβs been some conversing about that ring lately, calling it the Halo. I donβt know if thereβs a legit term. The Halo sounds pretty good though.
Some people think itβs bad, others see it all the time and never have problems.

So if itβs got that clear ring ..like transparent looking but still ryzo mycelium on outer edges that means mold? I thought that was norm?

I have seen speculation that it is mold. I am not convinced. I think it has to do with nutrient density of the agar.
