The more I read what other people have to say about rye, the more I want to try it out. Is the prep much different than for WBS?

completely different for me. I load the pot, ignite the burner and set a timer for 45 minutes on high. when I get back its just starting to boil but not quite. I turn off the burner and let it sit for another 20-30 minutes then drain and spread out to dry. I cook 50lbs at a time in my 14.5 gal brew kettle on a camp chef stove

Ahhh good to know. I like grains that are more forgiving because I have a bad tendency to get a little too high and leave my grains on past the timer

Lol my prep is completely different. Rinse a few times, 12 hr soak and then dump in boiling pot for 5 mins, then spread out to dry. Your way sounds easier tho
I do only 1 dry kg at a time btw bc europe lacks decent 23qt prestos and we cant import atm

I dont even rinse the rye. with wheat I have to or its way too sticky. on a good day Ill be loading bags 2-3 hrs after laying it out to dry. I use canvas painters dropclothes and the backside of a rake to spread em out to dry

Hi guys. I think my WBR jar is stalling about 14 days after a2g, I'm seeing a couple mm worth of progress in 24 hours measured by leaving a rubber band at the mycelium edge. Lid is unscrewed a bit but I can unscrew it more without it falling off. I think I've read before that turning the jar upside down can help in this case. Do you turn it over and let the grain stay at the bottom of the jar or bang it on something to release the grain so there is head space where the grain aren't colonized? Do you leave the lid unscrewed when it's upside down?

P.S. It's a pint plastic jar with unmodified lid, if that matters.

Old pic, but I currently have the same jar and lid set up with LC ready to go.
I want to aspirate to syringe, but the time I tried before I had a hell of a time poking thru the SHIP
with the SHIP and then filter, I shouldn't have that vacuum problem when drawing up the LC right?
Also, I have "LC" syringes, but they are dull on the ends, how tf am I gonna force that thru the SHIP?

I did my first a2g five or six days ago. The second growth picture is today. The mycelium took over the agar and a few kernels but past that I'm not seeing much growth.
I have similar effects from LI2G from 6 days ago as well. It looks fine. Maybe a tiny bit to much on the wet side, as few grains popped, but nothing to be concerned about. It's funny how everyone preps their grain differently, yet it works almost every time. Rye is super forgiving. I do mine by heating water to the boil, then turning the heat off, adding rye, closing the lid and forgeting about everything for 2h.

There is workaround for EU peeps. I've found 20L aluminium pressure cooker that is said to go up to 0,5 Bar. I've tweaked the weights and now it runs at 15/16 PSI no problem

Moower is that a Universal? It looks exactly like mine which is rated to 50kPa. I don't know what the safety valve is rated to though or I'd increase the weight but yeah, mine looks identical.

You shouldn't have a problem no. I remember back in the day sometimes my syringe filters would get lc splashed on them they would colonize and it would make things very difficult.
I've never used a blunt tipped needle but you could always unscrew the lid and draw into the syringe instead of using a port.

Thanks Gizmo, I might just do that....still haven't used a SHIP successfully in this hobby lol

Right, sure, should have posted straight away. It should be KingHoff if I remember correctly. 2nd safety valve is rated at 110 kPa. Original jiggly valve is rated at 50kPa as You've mentioned. But I did some measures and based on the weight and the diameter of the hole it's truly ~42 kPa. This the final weight calculated at 280-285g.
My guess it's the same model from some Chinese manufacturer with differed brand slapped on it

Cool, I guess I'll give mine a try with some more weight. If the safety valve blows maybe I can just get it replaced with a higher rated one.

My a.c. is broken, it seems to be working somewhat but I need to call a technician
My grow room only has bags right now but there's 28 4lb bags in there and it's been around 82F, yesterday was up to 87F for a bit
Need to get this shit fixed before it gets any hotter

If it's the same one, then this red safety valve is spring loaded. With my current weight it gets triggered occasional and release small amount of steam causing relatively minimal condensation on the sides of it. After this PC is fully aired at full power (9), I switch power output to 4, somewhere in the middle of the cycle I sometimes need to go down to 3 for few 10-15m to lower the pressure as at around 1.5h mark this red valve starts to rise slowly.

I've been working with bags so far. I don't have enough jars to be 100% certain, but You should fit 7 jars in one layer, and maybe 2-3 on top of that horizontaly.
