Got a quart of almost fully colonized oats but it’s lookin pretty bacterial. If I were to case and fruit it and then clone a fruit to agar would I have to worry about bacteria or is it more or less sterile inside like a normal fruit?

I've got two jars that have been going from agar GT (T4 from a pin clone) nice rhizo/uniform growth and B+ (T0 from a pin clone)

I don't see any signs of contamination but after 20 days it still seems to only be at ~ 30-40% colonized.

I started them out in my room ~68-78F and just transferred them two days ago to my greenhouse at a more or less constant 75F and 85%RH.

Is it totally normal to have a clean culture take that long to colonize if it just happens to be a slow colonizer?

I think what most people do is shake at around 30% and it’ll finish in around a week after that. A month I think is pretty normal for a ms quart, not sure about clones though.

It's fairly well uniform in growth: I've G2G worse looking with success... and JAN, it's not a definite killjoy no: much like you dont HAVE to use agar, syringe to jar works... my point was that in that tub, judging by the water damage on the caps of the other maturing fruit, deduction leads me to believe his aborts are drown victims...  they need water, but they also need air... you'll see agar dishes fruit, and an LC may climb the glass to fruit, but you don't see submerged fruit forming... the culture decides, for whatever reason (genetics, conditions, contamination) that that particular fruit is a waste of resources... if we're making the distinction, water should be allowed to evaporate before administering additional mistings, and misting should be done conservatively in effort to maintain surface conditions in a condensate/evaporate cycle... Maybe its bacteria that takes hold, and I too have seen fruit emerge from bottom watered disaster areas... normally not very healthy... misting pins appropriately is of no harm: knowing what an appropriate amount is as a noob is near impossible without having drowned and dried a few out

I feel you there caps. You can over water substrates but the overall consensus is that misting pins doesn't make them abort. If you submerge a tub it will float to the top and fruit. If you don't allow enough evaporation between misting your fruits will abort and the Mycelium will recolonize the fruit is my point I guess. I think the old theory of over misting causing aborts is really lack of FAE combined with overmisting.

It’s recently come to my attention that people think letting spores drop causes contamination and/or will make the next flushes weak.

I hopped on the search engine and sure enough even fairly recently that was “common knowledge”.

That’s such a weird one to me. I think virtually every grow I’ve ever done has dropped at least some spores and even when half the sub was purple there were tons of pins all over it.

Does anybody think there’s any merit whatsoever to that theory or is this just another way to stay in denial about shitty spawn?

Right.

I saw a lot of talk about when spores hit the myc it sends signals that fruiting is done so shut down.

But that would only make sense if there was only going to be one flush. Just the fact that they flush over and over shuts down that theory.

So when they drop spores it restarts the fruiting cycle... which could be good for consecutive flushes . And Possibly evens out the pinset?

That’s what I’m getting from yall convo

I’m not sure why cube spores would cause contamination to cubes : ) and for mycelium to give up fruiting after a single success that just doesn’t seem natural considering how relatively difficult it is to find a proper place to land.

I wonder if the front page of this site has been updated. I haven’t looked but for a long time there was still very outdated stuff and people would read all that before joining the forum a lot of times.

Ok so let me dig in.

The fruiting cycle happens based on the trigger, contamination or evaporation. When you are at the end of a fruiting cycle the RH was high and you cut all the shrooms off the sub. This resets the evaporation trigger at the surface. All of a sudden there isn't a heavy RH un the tub and evaporation starts to happen again. If you mist the shit out of your tub or dunk it than it will slow the process down a couple of days. But if there isn't enough moisture left to produce another flush than the Mycelium will start to break down and give way to contamination.

I do not think spores will cause a tub to give in to contamination or stop fruiting. IMO it's just the drop in RH because all the fruits are removed that starts the fruit formation cycle all over.

They probably think that cause they contaminate after a few flushes anyway when theyre done fruiting.I don't think strong healthy mycelium can contaminate cause they have defense mechanism, immune systems in a way.

I think the main argument for not letting all the fruits drop spores is potency. I’m pretty sure that theory stems from the thought that cubensis has the most potency at veil formation.

The inside should be pretty clean just be extra cautious cause your working around bacteria.

That's how I got a clean melmac culture it was bacterial as fuck. I got a single fruit, cloned it did a couple tranfers then put it to LC.
