Hobbit I don’t see why grabbing some myc wouldn’t work.
I mean it would still narrow the genetics down a lot.
Do you have any old jars with grain stuck to the bottom?

Hey guys this is my first grow. Everything’s going smoothly so far! But I have some new pins growing that have black tips. It’s really weird don’t know if it’s normal or if it’s contaminated. These are AA+ Albinos.

Are those true albinos or leucistic?

Not 100% sure. When I bought the spores it said albino but I’m not 100% if they could be leucistic?

Could you see the spores? Albinos will drop clear spores, luecistic fruit will have dark spores... AA+ is a common misnomer and is traditionally luecistic:NOT albino as the name implies ...the black capped fruit are aborts: dont mist pins directly
That waviness in the fruit is from excess humidity... WALK AWAY lol... looking good otherwise

Damn okay thanks! I usually don’t mist too often but when I do I just spray it over the top. I believe it’s because I have a lot of moisture in there. There’s even droplets over the mycelium. Is that bad?

Misting pins doesn't cause aborts. Just happens especially with AA+ the caps can turn dark and they will abort. I have had some that came back from the abortion stage however. This one started to develop the dark aborted cap when it was young.
I was really busy with work and neglected this tub, but when I got the conditions adjusted back it grew up and for fun I flicked the black tip off with a scalpel.

Alrighty started 2 plates today. One with a drip from a spore syringe and one with a swab. We'll see if there's any difference in performance.
Also, I kinda fucked up some of my plates and they didn't stay flat in the PC. Would it be stupid to microwave them the flatten them out? Does it matter?

Misting too heavily/directly absolutely will kill pins... I've seen whole tubs stall only to push a flush back up a week later... I'm not talking a typical and proper 3-4 squeeze mist that evaporates in an your's time; I'm talking about the type of mist you gave when you (generic "you", not you specifically) started and didnt realize you were maintaining surface conditions only, and NOT watering the substrate lol
Surface droplets are great, you dont want puddles, or water sitting on the fruit themselves for extended periods... a pin who's cap is encapsulated in a water droplet too long/often will abort in my experience: having purposefully over and under hydrated and/or misted tubs with conditions testing early on... I suggest anyone do the same if theyd like a better idea 9f what the organism they're working with is or is not capable of... too heavy/often misting can cause aborts, cracked caps, bruised and matted mycelium that produce few but very large and/or dense fruit: something that can also be influenced with higher or lower temps ime
Dont get too hung up on surface droplets: I've seen substrates never produce surface moisture and still push up a canopy... experiment

I'd leave the plates alone: culture wont care to climb a wall as long as it's nutritious

I keep finding new ways to cause problems...
So when I let the pc run dry apparently the trivet or whatever the tray in the bottom is called became super flexible. I just put empty soda cans under it hold it up now.
Then the knob on my burner popped off. Doesn’t look like anything broke but I also can’t get it popped back in.
Luckily I can still control flame size, cuz it won’t turn off now. I have to shut the tank off.
On the bright side I honestly can’t think of anything else that could happen that hasn’t in the last month and a half. And I’ll never forgot the pc when it’s venting again.

Not the answer I wanted to hear lmao. I'm looking for either great or horrible. I'm probably going to g2g atleast one of them I figure if they are bad it will make the problem worse right. This should prove bad spwwn if it's the spawn and if they come out good then I know it's the verm. Same time I started using verm again I started having contam problems the verm has a bunch of white crumbly stuff im it and a bunch of clumps I was enjoying verm it was helping sub not dry out and I was getting better flushes but now contams. Pin mold and penicillium mold.
Frustrating as shit but that's why I normally don't grow when it starts getting hot out.

I’d be happy with those jars.
I’m not using verm for a while now cuz even though it’s supposed to be safe, I’ve noticed that all the tubs that make it past three flushes are ones I didn’t put verm in.
Figured it’s worth checking out.

Caps I get what your saying but directly misting pins doesn't cause them to abort. I have fruited pins submerged underwater. Aborts will come from improper surface conditions IE to quickly drying out your surface humidity or poor genetics. More likely than most it's always gonna be surface conditions.
Here is a picture of spent tubs submerged in water fruiting up and into the air.

Those brown ones on the side were all submerged upside down in the water. So they should abort?
Not trying to cause an argument just hoping to reinforce that misting pins doesn't cause them to abort. They are 90% water anyway.

No man they went back to nature. There was alot of mold in that outdoor spent tub tub. I think my local racoons did.
Eventually I had to tip it over cause it got very bacterial and the birds enjoyed it also.
