Are you using 1.2L H2O to 650g Coir? That is way less than Bod's tek....
Well that's the deal with different brands and even the same brand. First time I followed his tek, the wife and I were wringing soooo much water out. Hell the second time was still too wet! So, ya 1.211 L

Ok some dry clumps, not too dry~. 8) Wait until cool (I just wait overnight) 1:1 myc to coir jars and a thin layer on top from the 5th jar, tamp the edges good
But different brands of coir vary...
I like 650G coir and 2 qts verm to 4 jars these days and warm tap over boiled. same yields as when I would use 5 or 6 qts of spawn

You da man Ted! No really, you guys have so much experience. I'm gonna have to give it a try. You mix the coir & verm before warm water, correct?

I do. some like to mix the coir and water 1st tho and then add verm to field capacity. you can always add a little more verm either way tho. I like verm
and thats 1 gallon of water per 650 G coir. I cut the top off a milk jug and use that

tape on bags pre pcing will give you a stiky residue over everything cause the adhesive melts.

on my jars with mp tape I have 2-3 layers over a piece of tyvek. that is the correct tape. I wouldnt recommend what your trying but Im very curious to know if it works for you? I used to wand to make bags out of oven bags but theyre pricier than spawn bags. well, the cheapest I can get them locally is a buck a pop and thats if you get a 100 pk vs 50cents for spawn bags or cheaper if you get a box

I tried to make bags from oven bags back in 2008 and again in 2010 or some shit. Total waste of time. I guess maybe I just couldn't do it right but for the prices that real mycobags cost with proper filters, I would never ever do it again. I also had 100% failure rate
With real bags as long as I sterilize them properly and use clean inoculant, in front of my hood my contam rate is extremely low

I put like 0% research into it for deciding to use oven bags. Probably will just get some premade spawnbags like you suggest. Ty

I actually never even considered it but back then I had no credit card and really no means of ordering bags, so trying oven bags from a grocery store seemed like the way to go. I ended up back using jars again cause I failed so hard . But Teds right the oven bags probably don't even save much if any $
Even if you don't have a CC nowadays you can get prepaid credit cards and stuff or use paypal, even pay with debit cards sometimes
Do you have a flowhood? I don't think it is fully necessary for bags but it definitely makes life easier
Who does bags in a SAB? I know some of you have those skills!
Frank is one poster I've seen have success, posting this here in case you don't have flowhood, might be useful information for you ovoid
Quote:
IMPORTANT:
Filter bags are pretty tall in general. You are going to have a tough time keeping things clean if you are constantly bumping the lid of the SAB while you are working with the bags. You need to have some headspace in your work area. A very tall SAB, a flowhood, or something similar will work.
I use a still air box with the lid off, set up inside of a 3'x3'x6' grow tent (thanks to slapphappypill for the idea!) It is essentially a draft-free area, and I can inoculate my bags very easily without the lid on my SAB. I don't close myself inside, I work with the door open and my chair halfway inside.

Since this might not work for your particular situation, you may need to get creative and figure out how to effectively do this without contaminating everything to hell.
DO NOT TRY THIS IN OPEN AIR.

I used an inoculation loop for the first time the other day. Didn't expect the springiness of it and launched some agar at the SAB wall

does anyone here use inoculation loops to transfer mycelium to new agar plates?
I tried it and found it to be a pain in the ass and went back to my scalpel..I only use the loop for spores and even then I think I prefer sterile swabs now over loops

They do work well for taking up a tiny drop of LC to test out

I use em to xfer from slants. I also sometimes use the loop to germ spores straight from the gills

I use 3 quarts water to 1 brick coir and 2 verm 4 comes out sopping. I'm getting back into using verm I feel like dub drys out less with it. I'm starting to come to the conclusion that hydrated coir stores longer if you use hot tap as opposed to boiled water. When using big ass blocks instead it's of bricks I use hot tap. That shit lasts forever. If using boiled water I get maybe 2 or 3 weeks. It either that or Eco earth just sucks I'm not sure.

eco earth varies greatly for me. Even different bricks sometimes have different absorption. So I weigh the bricks and put the minimal amount of water I know to work...if it's too dry I add water. If it's too wet I squeeze it out.
I've used eco earth on so many tubs now...and I just use hot water these days.
I always get a seed or two sprouting and occasionally I find rocks...and there is almost always some amount of sand
