I found some pin mold on 2 tubs today so melmac isn't going great. Im pretty sure the spawn was clean. No more preparing coir and leaving it sitting around. I was getting away with it on the giant organics brand blocks but of course Eco earth can't handle the wait.
Or maybe I'm just cursed when it comes to LC.
How long did you let it sit for?

I've totally dropped eco earth... its horrible. Using 5k bricks... my favorite is cocotek. Its soooo much more absorbent and easy to work with (I break them with a large screwdriver and hammer with ease)

I stopped using eco earth too.
I never had problems with it I just started doing more grows so I started getting the 5k bricks online.
The coir is definitely higher quality but it doesn’t seem to matter at all to the shrooms.
I always use a big fixed blade hunting knife to pry layers off.

What is the cost difference? I use to get 3 ecoearth bricks for 9.00
I recently purchased 11 lbs for 34.00 on Amazon.

Bro I got grass growing in my sub from the ecoearth and it looked like there was some dry floor patch in there when I was breaking up the bricks. Bunch of grey powder. the quality is way shittier than it was last year

Mine was called hydro crunch.
I just pulled it up to check the price and it says no longer available, guess it’s a good thing I bought extra on a whim last month.
It was 16.25 for 11 pounds

Any ideas how to control temp fluctuations in my SAB? It's under a window and the top 30% of plates have it pretty bad. I just put some ziploc gallon bags over the stacks and moved the SAB as far away from the window as I could in hopes that it helps a bit. I had some nicely grown out plates that now have bacterial drops on them and it's making me sad

The bactiera isn't because of temp fluctuating.

You don't need to grow your dishes out in your SAB. Just put them somewhere with more constant conditions. Only when you work on them do they really need to be in the SAB

Would a less wet environment just hide the contamination until they're put to jars then? Does that mean it's good that I'm catching this now?
Also thanks for the tip-- I just moved the plates much farther away from the window. Fingers crossed

Yeah if you haven’t opened it since the transfer anything that grows was there the whole time.
Normally by a week anything in there will be visible, but there are some sneaky ones.

A plate is a relatively high humidity environment already, regardless of where it's located.

Hey I know this isn’t the exact forum to “request an ID” but there’s like three different species of fungus growing in my apartment building’s hedge area and I just wanna see if anyone recognizes this species. I’m not wondering if it’s active, just if anyone sees these pop up after rain as well and knows what they are. They just look super cool lol

Those are cool looking. Weird clear jelly caps.
Reminds me of a thread I saw about albino liberty caps or something like that.
