A flow hood is the best man. It's actually a flow cabinet to be technical. It keeps a laminar flow of air keeping contaminants from getting into your work. A SAB is great and works perfectly fine. It really helps you get your sterile tech and your movements down before spending the money for a flow hood. I'm gonna keep this one awhile and build a bigger one later and sell this on to pay for the next bigger one ?

Once you work in front of a flow hood going back to a SAB will feel like the train ride to Auschwitz.

Hey I have a question that doesn't need it's own thread so I'll ask here, I've got this 2 day old shoebox colonizing. During colonization, should I have the lid upside down to leave small gaps in the corners or have the box completely closed? The tape is to prevent the lid from sliding around, the kind of box I have isn't ideal and if I put the lid right way up it will be a tight seal.
When it's time to fruit I will replace the lid with a grocery bag with some holes at the top like Bodhisatta's easy AF tek said or I'll make a dub tub.

You can leave it as is or you can have the lid right way up. The rate at which your sub dries out will determine what you do.
That doesn't clearly answer you question though so....I would probably have the lid on as it's meant to sit on the box. Flip the lid to how you have it now once pins form to slightly increase airflow.

You can put it in fruiting right away.
If you want to do a spawn run you could probably close the lid and thereβd be enough air. Maybe open it for a second every couple days.

The idea is to get fruits from that box, I don't have any mushies right now and I really miss tripping. I guess I'll put the box into fruiting conditions then? I'm scared, it's my first time doing any kind of bulk growing and that box is all I have going right now besides some agar plates. If that grow fails I'll have to start over.

I know the feeling, my first grow felt like super high stakes and then once I had a little stash from it I could relax.
If your spawn was good itβs very hard to not get mushrooms.
Just post lots of detailed pics if you have questions.

The spawn is 5 shredded brf cakes that took 35 days to colonize, I started with 6 cakes but one contaminated with mold early on. They also started pinning at 90% colonization so I'm kinda worried they have bacteria in them. They smelled fine though and eventually colonized fully so hopefully I'm just being paranoid.

Fresh air exchange is beneficial to the organism you're cultivating at ALL stages of life... as well as 12/12 lighting cycle: from spore to spent... restricted fae and dark colonization are outdated practice and actually likely detrimental to the health of your intended fungus, and favorable to many competitor microorganisms: namely anaerobic bacteria, which open the door to many, more sinister intruders IME/O...

hey guys wanted to get your opinions on something
So on a 3rd flush from my AA+ monster clone culture (not an isolate), i got a really weird shaped, short dense fruit. None of the others fruits ive ever seen from this culture have anything remotely close to this shape, and they are usually super tall.
It has bruised insanely blue (much moreso than it appears in the pics. Also it has a tiny pin attached which has a brown cap (never seen that on AA+, ive worked with this clone culture A LOT)
Do any of yall think its worth cloning this little brown pin or the weird fruit its attached to? Or jusy chalk it up to late flush kookiness ?

I would definitely clone it. I mean, what do you have to lose? They look like Fantasy Gnome Shrooms
