I was wasting a lot of plates before and my last batch got fucked from the pour, give or take. I have a few hundred but I don't need to use so many for redundant transfers. One plate one transfers until clean, then do whatever you want to expand. Fortunately because I stopped all culture work I came back to Melmac plate pins. Gonna get those going and the summer should be good, no festivals or concerts, just growing all the things!

You don't need to do an overnight switch. Order a few sets of glass plates first and see how you like them.

glass dishes are a pain in the ass from what I hear
I hate that I waste plastic but it is a minor dent compared to a company like coca cola
If you are cooking up 50 or 100 plates every couple weeks using glass is probably a major hassle. I could see it working if you were doing personal grows, which I guess a lot of people do
I have never tried glass dishes I have just seen a lot of people on here bitch about them

Seems like more people are using them than before though. RR used to talk down on glass if I remember correctly. I wouldn't mind the little bit of extra hassle to cut back on waste some. I hate throwing away used petris and I used no pours for the longest. I feel like I over use way more with regular petris and with no pours they kept me in check. I had to clear out old plates or wouldn't have any spares to transfer to. With regular petris I'm a hoarder.

Depends on what you are doing. It takes several plates to get to a point whete LC/LI makes sense
I currently am working on over 10 different species and about 25 varieties of cubes. Multiple cultures of each, testing a fuckton of isolates
Got about 20 LCs going
They arent mutually exclusive.
I love LCs, even over g2g, but i dont see how it saves plates unless you are comparing it to a2g, rather than g2g

Lmao damn I'm jelous of your work ethic c10. I would lose my mind using a quarter of those over the span of a month. Lmao. especially this time of year I struggle to do 5 or 6 transfers on a hot day. I was thinking of making a thread asking for advice on how to keep cool while doing sterile work during the summer. I can keep a fan running because I rock a SAB and it just gets hot AF in my room especially with the torch running even on the lowest setting. I usually just stop growing this time of year and focus on gardening and brewing. Decided to tough it out this summer.

I'm on the other side of the pond, I get them from a lab supply store at 0.75€ each, they're packed in boxes of 18.

They're definitely a lot more work than plastic. I wouldn't want to use them if I was going through 100s/week. I go through 20-30 a week and it's working perfectly. I think the biggest reason why people hate on them is because they treat them as pour plates, which requires very stringent cleaning protocols. If you do no-pours, it doesn't matter if there's a small speck left inside. The only downside to no-pour method is that your PC is occupied until they solidify.

Like i said, ive scaled back a lot, probably only 100ish a week now. I use most of them to get from one transfer to the next, if thats what you mean
Always looking for ways to be more efficient, but it would be expensive af to get that much glass, and a pita to sterilize. Im really into hunting special isolates, like that tamp and galindoi isolate i been working with. And that AA+ isolate in my sig. Usually takes a ton of work to find something special
I definitely have a lot of space. Could be way more efficient if i was just trying to crop out as much as possible but that aint my goal.
Re gizmo: Sounds like you need a FH bro!! Thats exactly what made me break down and build mine
Also part of why i built it w the frame i did. That nice breaze is awesome, and ac doesnt mess it up
