What do you do? Take the whole roll out and chop it into little rolls on a mitre saw?
In the past I've used a D saw to cut them into 1 inch rolls, but never got a super good clean cut, so I didn't make a habit of using it over parafilm

I wonder if a chop saw would cut them any nicer. If you went through real slow maybe? Someone should try it out I would myself but I'm still working with no pour
What's the difference between parafilm and cling film anyway?

yes. you chop up the whole roll into 2" or 3" sections. a serrated knife works fine. then you wrap the saran wrap around the edges of your agar plate. it seals it up while still allowing gas exchange. it works the same as parafilm. but parafilm is expensive.
i've been doing fine with saran wrap but it slips off the glass if your hands are too wet with alcohol. i'm just wondering if anyone has tried press n seal before. anyone?

there's a huge difference between saran wrap and press n seal. press n seal has adhesive on it. saran wrap doesn't.

yup that's exactly why i picked it. but i think the underside of parafilm is sterile. i'm not sure if press n seal is.

People have used grafting tape (made by parafilm) with good results and is cheaper at around 8$ 90 feet on Amazon Just throwing it out there incase someone may find it useful https://www.shroomery.org/forums/showflat.php/Number/19052762

Bought a 20lb bag of penningtons WBS earlier and a bag of poly. Got my SFD lids ready.... most of you guys soak but no simmer yeah? I used to soak and simmer, get a lot of burst and somewhat starchy seed that way it seems. I dunno.
Ready to try rocking it again though let's do it. Got a nice 4th transfer KSSS plate to inoculate with.

for wbs foomans tek has been a standard for years and years. would never complicate wbs prep beyond foomans tek.

What he said!
At the beginning I also used saran wrap or similiar products. But hey, 30m of Parafilm cost around 30 euros in Germany, it makes more than 1000 dishes which is 3 cent per dish.
I haven't calculated it but I think saran wrap is not much cheapier.

I tried it but prefer regular gad wrap. Fuck pera film. It's more expensive and dries out over time.

Do you think that for "long time" storage of agar plates in the refrigerator I should better use saran?
At the moment I use a double wrap of para film and use plates with a lot of agar poured into them)
"Long time" = 1-3 months.
I would also use saran wrap for normal plate usage but I have read that only some brands (glad!) allow GE, others don't. Since we don't have Glad in Germany I wasn't able to find out which wrap here in germany allows GE, so I used Parafilm!

3 months isn't that long. If you gave pera film use it. I just wouldn't buy it when glad wrap is so cheap and works just as well if not better.

My saran wrap was 1 euro for 50 meters. I cut it into 6 mini rolls. I use about 25 cm for one petri, that is 200 petris per mini roll. Or 1200 petris per roll. That's less than a tenth of a cent per petri.

Do you guys get a layer of sediment with PDA from potato flakes in no-pour plates? Are potato flakes supposed to dissolve completely in water? I think the instant mashed potatoes we have in my country are not the same most of you guys use. It's a cosmetic thing and the nutes get absorved in the agar puck, but I don't like it. Same thing with BRF agar. I'll have to try making PDA the traditional way from potato broth to see if this continues to happen. I made a bunch of MEA no-pour plates the other day for the first time and the LME gets dissolved completely, making the agar puck very pristine and without sediment, I'm loving it so far.

yeah Josex, in europe we have a slightly different kind of potato flakes. It won't dissolve completely in Agar Agar solution.
I use LME powder and it's really nice and also very cheap. If you don't want to change the media from time to time to give your myc "new food", stay with LME and you'll do fine

Yeah there's sediment. Have you ever seen a potato completely dissolve in water.

What's your issue with sediment? It doesn't hurt anything.
