Advantage of not dunking is less mess, waste, handling of tray... disadvantage potential of over saturating I suppose. Thoughts?
I did it once on a tub but it was 6th or 7th flush. I had forgot about it for a while and it was super dry so I figured why not. It worked but I don't know that it did any better than had I just sprayed it down or soaked it.
I feel like this was attempted many times in the far past with total failure. Aasking for contams. Maybe yelling for it.

Yeah bottom watering is great. If there is a lot of standing water in the bottom that doesn't get soaked up after a day or so it's probably best to try and pour it off but it works very good

Bottom water is my go to curiosity got the better of me when I found a marinating syringe in my random kitchen tools drawer
It surprisingly didn't contam at all. I kept pulling randoms off it every couple of weeks til i finally needed the room and threw it in the trash. Checked a week later and the thing had popped up 5-6 giant fruits that had dried in place from it being 110 out

I use liners. after 1st flush theres always water under the liner which I remove to harvest. I dump that back between the liner and the sub as a bottom water. dunking is a wast of time and space IMO/E and spreads contams if present. just bottom water if at all and mist

To anyone who grows TOC on the regular or has grown it in the past
Is it normal for it to start knotting up...like quite a bit...before it's fully colonized?
I'm wondering if there was some hidden contam in there and it is last resort trying to push fruits out quickly but the tub surface looks clean as fuck to me, just maybe 50% colonized in patchiness...and knots are starting already
I will take a picture later to better clarify wtf I mean but I figure the question is general enough you guys can answer without a pic
edit:
tub is on day 8 forgot to add that

Is the surface a top layer or exposed? If it has a top layer it's probably pretty well colonized underneath. I've been running a toc clone for the past 6 months that doesn't fully colonize the top layer even though it's just coir/verm.

Basically irrelevant. It's quite hard for contams to go under the lid and fall on agar.

lol I’ve been using a SAB for months and never done this before but it’s happened twice this week.
I was torching the blade and simultaneously putting the torch down and the scalpel back in the SAB...only I missed the armhole. It melted a little dent into the side and the blade bent into an L shape.
So dumb.
With the tyvek I cut whole lid size circles, probably gonna rtv some quarter sized ones on soon I’ve been wanting a filter stuck to the lid and got burned on the sfd I bought. Luckily I only started with a couple.

I've burnt the paper towel flaps on the SAB, luckily didn't catch on fire!

Ya'all don't like polyfill? the torch was used to melt the fuzziness. Seems fine to this noob...

I never liked polyfil. At all. For anything. I hated using it for old school monos. Would never use it for lids. Ive always been a syringe filter or tyvek guy when doin lids. Either one works just fine.

Just a heads up, if you don't have an SLA printer you'll need to print supports with these. I asked bound2grow if she could make one with thicker walls and a concave overhang so it could be extruder printed and what have you.
Even though the file had issues, I printed one and ran it through a 2.5 hr PC cycle and it does NOT deform, in TPU. Whichever of you jumped to that conclusion was dead wrong. It's stuff like that that causes me not to come here anymore. It's also why some of you are stuck where you are and not moving forward. Not trying to be condescending or holier-than-thou when I say it, but some of you need to free your minds, because chica is close to having a really good idea here. I hope the negativity doesn't cause her to not come back.

@bound2grow nice work - I PMed you all this. This isn't quite ready for prime time but you really got the exterior dimensions nailed down. They're perfect. I bet this would print on an sla like a dream but it's a bit thin to extrude imo

It has a top layer, around 1/2" or so only. But it's straight coir no verm.
Oh well I started to give it some lights, will keep an eye on it I think it's gonna pin in the next couple days
