Anyone ever try using syringes to inject water into colonized trays to rehydrate for 2nd, 3rd, etc flushes as opposed to dunking for 3-4 hours? Like 20cc every few inches or so? Advantage of not dunking is less mess, waste, handling of tray... disadvantage potential of over saturating I suppose. Thoughts?

if u have a hole on top of the mason jar lid with micropore tape, do you still need to flip the lid upside down when putting it in the pressure cooker? will it get stuck due to vacuum?

Only flip lids with PF. So I can say that I don't. When doing grains I just slap em on and PC but my lids are most likely worn after 10 years.

Makes it easier to remove once fully colonized. Did both ways in the past before I knew what the hell I was doing. I prefer lid down like normal. It really depends on which way you poke your holes in PF.

Has anybody had issues using micropore tape as filters on grain jars I'm starting to grow again after a few years and I don't want to use polyfil anymore and tyvek filter lids are expensive af.

Free tyvek from the post office has never failed me. Worked way better than my “mushroom cultivation” sfd.

Yeah RR detailed that on in his lets grow videos.
He just suggested that you double it up since those suits are pretty thin.

I’d just find a post office and grab a stack of the big envelopes.
Each one can make like 12 two layer filters.

RR would be disappointed

Nonsense.
PO tyvek is poorly suited to mycology, far worse than micropore tape. Don't encourage stealing here, even if it was any good. RR
to be fair I actually only thought he ever said that because stealing was an issue, but I didn't know that he thought it might be insuperior to other tyvek sources?

RogerRabbit said: Tyvek deforms in the pressure cooker and the pore sizes change. One can easily see this with a microscope. After an hour at 15 psi, I've seen holes in P.O. tyvek that a mold spore could drive a truck through. This may not happen to every piece every time, but if you use P.O. tyvek as a filter for very long, rather than the much thicker-weaved kite tyvek, you're going to experience a higher fail rate and wonder what went wrong with your spores, syringe, sterilizer, etc., when the cause was the tyvek all along. RR
That's not to say its not good enough the first time round tho either, is it?
Quite frankly, anything with greater than a 2% to 3% fail rate a priori is beyond the acceptable. I've heard growers on here actually bragging about a 90% success rate, while for those of us into the science of cultivation, a 10% fail rate is not to be tolerated. Polyfill is cheap, kite tyvek is cheap, and synthetic filter disks, the reigning champion are less than 50 cents each, so I see no reason to steal from the post office just because it's free. Your substrates and spores/spawn are worth the extra cost of better performing alternatives. RR
Who knows if that is actually true though, for some reasons I doubt it, a lot of people used postal tyvek over the years

Oh weird. Never heard that but it’s been awesome for me, never lost a jar with it that wasn’t my own fault.
There’s no way micropore tape is better though. Tyvek is near solid, you can’t tear it or anything and tape has those visible holes.
Plus is it really stealing if it’s free.
I’m with you on it probly being he just had an issue with taking the envelopes.
But seriously unless you’re switching them out every time and doing mass grows it’s whatever. I can get either 12 or 16 filters per envelope. So let’s say 12, and I switch them every 6 pc cycles which is super unnecessary.
That’s 72 quarts of spawn per envelope.

I did it once on a tub but it was 6th or 7th flush. I had forgot about it for a while and it was super dry so I figured why not. It worked but I don't know that it did any better than had I just sprayed it down or soaked it.

2, I trace a lid and then cut through both sides of the envelope. It’s perfect cuz one sticks to the lid and one sticks to the band.

I think I might cut up the filter discs I have to fight a quarter inch whole to save money any recommendations on glue that will stay stable through the pressure cooking. I also found 100 discs for 60.00 but I don't need that many so if anyone would want to go in with me on 100 shoot me a pm.
