I actually don't mind the seals I don't see to much of a problem with them.
Just put some ovoid prints on agar, first time doing woodlovers gotta find a good tek.

Huh fingernail clippers could work. I was thinking like a bottle opener lol.
I thought about flipping the lids but that makes me nervous and I gotta figure out why Iām having mold problems right now too.
I remember seeing the thread for scraping the rubber off a while ago. I think they just heated it up and used a razor to slice it and then sanded off the residue.

I don't know that one in particular but there are several teks that deal with removing the rubber seals on metal lids. This is the most modern one and first one that popped into my mind. https://www.shroomery.org/forums/showflat.php/Number/26498354

Also idk if you guys will know what I'm talking about putI have this little metal extendable back scratcher well the little metal fingers on that bitch work perfect for removing those seals. I've also used a butter knife and a metal pen tube. There are plenty of tools for the job just get creative.

Wanted to try out a punch like D3monic had so I went down to the local hardware store and made these.
Handles are 3d printed out of PET so we will see how they hold up to being flame sterilized. I did a couple of trials over the flame and they seem ok.
Also not sure with brass how you would tell when you've completed that task. Brass takes on a purple hue when you get it hot so I'm figuring on using that as my indicator.
Haven't put them to use yet but I'll update when I do.
If anyone is interested I have enough to make a couple more.

Cool! Is the hole in the side of the shaft needed or is that just how they come so you can remove anything that gets stuck in the tip?

Yeah, I believe that is the purpose served by them.
I just purchased brass tube from the local hardware store and made these myself.
Leather punches have the cutouts so that the leather plugs can be cleared out.
In this case I figure it serves two purposes, clean it out, and prevent it from creating vacuum that sticks the puck of agar into the tube.

Yeah metal lids are awesome bro. Where you come from? Metal lids with Micropore are the best imo.

I thought plastic lids were standard now. It's a 1 piece lid so it's less dicking around in the SAB. When I get a new pack of jars I give all the metal to my wife to do witchy stuff with and then get plastic 1 piece lids. You dont have to worry about metal burrs sticking out when you drill the lid.

Yeah it might be me. I'm new here again. Haha. I prefer metal because I don't run the gaskets on white plastics and have had issues, but honestly I have so many cultures going I'm raiding the plastic ones that I had in storage and using them too.
Gizmo that Martha looks awesome.

I'm unable to identify this contamination. Its a little blueish in the pics. Would an experienced eye help me out?

It almost looks like there is a slight blueish hue to the jar in that one area, but I am not sure if it is real or the lighting or some other visual effect occurring .
Otherwise jar looks fine to me too

The blue is bruising from staring at them too hard... might be something hidden... could be a moisture issue(oats are a bit shiny)... run it and see: observe, learn...
