Looking to get pointed in the direction of some info on oysters, growing and what they enjoy. Found some people using aspen wood, coffee, coir, and grain. Can you spawn to tubs or do they have to be a cake type setup? I have a place near by that sells oyster bags already colonized so my plan was to essentially transfer some chunks into qt jars, colonize, and spawn to tubs, and store some in the fridge for future use to stretch it, if that works?

However I bought a 40kg bag of hardwood sawdust from a furniture maker or sawmill on eBay for next to nothing, enough to last me a bloody lifetime. Works perfectly.

I'm trying to slap together a greenhouse. I have these plastic shelves and some clear wrap which I'm thinking is marine grade vinyl but I'm not sure. Anyone have any advice on how I should close it up and join the seems. I want to do it as cheap as possible without it being a hack job. The wife said she can try to sew it for me if I want her to but Idk if regular thread will work great and it might get moldy. Im thinking I can order some kind of vinyl tape or vinyl glue or maybe even just iron the seems together. Can someone knowledgeable in this area please advise.

Is there any finesse when it comes to swabing PE in agar? I am not seeing any growth while other cubes are showing growth. Done it about 4 separate times 2 plates each and no growth no mold no nothin

Duct tape!
I have no experience with this.
The few swabs Iβve used I had to jam the tip into the agar and leave it.
I did get one spot of germination one time from swiping a swab but the spores were 30 seconds old.
Probably says more about my technique than anything lol.

Eww. it's not off the table but I'm definitely avoiding it except for as a last resort. I have OCD and having duct tape sealing anything will just bother the shit out of me.
Edit: how is your mini greenhouse/humidity chamber coming along aka?

Dude itβs so half assed.
For the pans I just put the tray in an underbed tub and then arched a piece of thick plastic bag over them and then put the lid on the underbed crooked with the fogger hose going inside.

But itβs working so Iβm not gonna fuck with it right now.

Swabs can be fucky. Im having problems getting Averys Albino going on agar now. Used 3 swabs from 2 sources, swabbed up 8 or 10 plates worth, and not seeing any good growth. I started some Melmac from a swab and had some nice growth on the first plate.
Just keep trying. I usually just swipe the swab around. Ive had people say to try dropping the whole swab head on the plate, or try pulling a few strands of cotton off and putting it down on the plate, but I havent tried that yet.

sup mush cult
By circumstance one acquires : -bag of dried up horse poop from the field -pile of year old composted horse manure -some vermiculite, -some ground up sheet rock. -four 66 quart mono tubs ready to be cut, - 12 fully colonised quart jars of albino cambodian on brown rice grains.
This will be my first attempt at mono tubs or cultivation at that. I'm thinking either unmodified tubs or just using micropore tape instead of polyfill incase I side with holes on the sides. What would you recommend?
I measured out the bottom of my tubs and roughly 10 to 12 quarts fills the desired height. Im asking what ratio of vermiculite and hpoo do you use? Im assuming 8 quarts hpoo, 1 quart vermiculite, 2 quarts inoculated grains? suggestions?
additionally this horse poo is quite like ground up hay, whereas the compost is much darker in colour but also much more moist. Which should I use?
thank you for your time.

This is metal shelving, painters plastic (5 mil), a ZipWall brand adhesive zipper, and some zip ties. Itβs really rudimentary and not by any stretch a greenhouse, but could absolutely be spruced up to be one. On the other hand:
This set up costs 45 bucks plus the 20 dollar heat bulb/lava rock set up. Point being might be cheaper to spend 60 bucks on a big greenhouse and heat lamp and fogger, rather than 30 bucks on sheliving, 20 on plastic, 5 on zip ties, and then all the other supplies you need for heating and humidity if your using it for exotics. Just my 2Β’ PM me if you want some guidance on how to set up either one of those apparatuses

link for that greenhouse? I was just searching online earlier and I found a couple of the smaller ones like I used to have set up for around $37-40 The ones like you have were going for around 100-150 in most places. It's been awhile but I used to have a greenhouse even back then I think I gave 40 bucks for the small 5 tier one. Funny you should mention it though was just talking about it last night I literally have about 18 dollars into this one including the plastic and coolmist. Already had shelving and digital timers. Just gotta get some lighting. I have a warm mist too that I was thinking about using to control temps since it's basically a steam generator lmao. Won't really need it during the summer though maybe next winter. The roll of plastic I bought fit over the top with and has enough overhang to seal up at the sides so I need to figure a way to seal the sides then I am just going to cut a slit in the front and use some "super strong earth magnets" I have laying around to seal the door. Was thinking about one of those adhesive zippers like you got but I'm on a budget so was just going to upgrade down the road. Your greenhouses both look pretty cool though feel free to share any details. I'm not sure how I am going to dial mine yet it's pretty much going to be trial and error. Noticed you said the one is not a greenhouse is that a incubator you have set up? pretty cool either way.

^ Damn. How did I not think of painters plastic? I've got a 25 x whatever roll of 6 mil. Those zipwalls are sick too. Might make some plans for the fall if it'll allow me to drop my house thermostat a few degrees. Warm blooded.

I just bought one of those greenhouses, though its a smaller version 19"x23" shelves x 4.
I already have on of those temp/humidity controllers, figured I'd use one of the cold mist humidifiers that operate on a mechanical dial in order to use it properly with the controller.
I've read a bunch that the electronic humidity sensors don't do well for the level of humidity needed for this application though.
what are you're opinions?
I know right now its easy enough to turn the humidifier on and off since I'm stuck at home. But here's to hoping that won't always be the case.
I've also been debating not using the humidifier at all in favor of just making each of the levels a SGFC with shoeboxes inside them.
Is it better to just put the bulk into a larger tubs?

Searching there for hardwood pellets or fuel pellets or oak pellets just gives me a bunch of BBQ blends and flavored shit for $40, $50, $60.
the ones I get are called "hot shot". just search for ones that are for a woodd pellet burning stove. not BBQ. the BBQ ones are pricy AF!
