Good luck. You doing the Lysol on this one?
Anyone try beer lc? It kinda blows atleast mine does. Used Bud at 50% beer 50% water. Zero growth after 3 going on 4 days, and alot of sediment after PC cycle. Also did another one that is 1/3rd of the 50/50 beer mix a 3rd diluted grain water and a 3rd diluted malt extract it's 2nd to last in growth speed and also has alot of sediment. Also did one that is malt extract and grain water and one that is just grainwater. Those 2 are about tied and both are crystal clear The grain water is a little more clear than grain water and malt extract. Each of the 4 LCs also has two drops of Karo in it.

No Lysol. Just a petri dish with two fresh spore prints on it and a stove-top-uptake syringe I aoready tested a syringe and the amount of water is "perfect" for the petri dish I have. Couldnt be a better match!
A simple design which should produce a clean syringe

cool did you get the idea of using a petri from my post the other night when I said I used them when too lazy to sterilize a jar to print in or from somewhere else. pretty cool stuff man. keep up the good work.

I cant remember exactly where i got the idea, but yeah that post definitely made me think of it.
I think i was going thru my mycology stuff, looking for stuff to use for printing, saw the empty petri dishes then thought "hey, that would be a perfect way to make clean prints" and tried it and it WAS the perfect thing. Its crazy. Its like they are made for each other. 2020 Baby, It Has Its Moments

Good enough for me I just wanted to feel important like I had a part in it lmao. Printing on petris is just so easy and there is no doubt they are sterile but then again they have there downside too mainly that that aren't as easy to store as on foil but for your use that doesn't matter since you are making syringes from them anyways. Good luck and let us know how it turns out.

Thanks man, will keep you updated. I definitely had inspiration from your post, for realz. Explaining the idea helps me understand it better too.
Its really just for syringes, yes. Or "specialty" storage if you just a ton of petri dishes (they are pretty small and compact).

This is cool LC. I'm definitely going to try this. Next mushrooms I print will be on these. I'm gonna reuse older spent agar plates and try cleaning them with soap and water.
I want to do a run of cakes to try Meteah's HC, but I'm out of Vermiculite. And ideas as a substitute?
I wonder about using finely chopped up cardboard?

Try a towel.
Wet cardboard might get colonized by mycelium, but could work

One Little Cake died. Another stay on the line. How should I prepare a room for a new fellow?
(I mean, contaminated cake goes out, another goes into the SGFC)
Alcohol? Or maybe ?

I'm inoculating these Coir/BRF cakes in an hour or so. I liked the consistency of the mix very much before and after PC. Seemed natural and logical enough what other suitable substitute is there for verm anyway? I can't think of much except coir. Or have you had some more ideas? I'd like to see different recipes as well

I topped my jars with hydrated coir, seemed more safe cause it stays in place more.

Wet coir on top is sketching me out a bit. Contams could travel down that water and contaminate the brf. Make sure to show us the results Mateah!

Hey all trying to find ball wide mouth plastic lids on amazon. The name brand are 2 packs of 8 for $30... rip off when you can get in stores for under $10. Anyone have any good experiences with any of the clones that amazon has available?

Short answer no. But taking a while to break up is a sign of contamination. Good spawn breaks up really fast. I've started to leave a stopwatch running, if it takes more than 3 minutes to break up, it's a little bacterial. If it takes more than 5 minutes, it's pretty sketchy.

Lol what??
If you smack the jar a couple times it breaks up in seconds regardless of bacteria.
Maybe Iām doing it wrong.

Correct me if I'm wrong but you're in a way either assuming that a mold or bacteria spore will land on the wet coir, germinate the coir and continue to colonize the entire sub? Or you're assuming a sort of scenario where contaminant spores land on top of the hydrated coir and somehow get wicked down to nutritious parts where they germinate? (or if there's a third alternative you're thinking about that I missed)
The reason I used hydrated coir on top layer was to be able to pat it down nicely along the rim the jar to seal the entire BRF mix from open air. Now I'm wondering how and what you specifically saw as a contam vector in this case cause I can't see it at this moment at least.

HA! Try stopping me instead! Most likely I'll be shuvving my discoveries relentlessly down everyone's throat like it's really important regardless of the significance of the results Jk...(let's hope) If coir BRF prove to work as good as verm cakes then for me at least if would make more sense switching to coir cakes just because of the much lower price or coir and the easy availability.
