Does anyone use a hot plate instead of a gas stove top? I have a nice gas range but I have to fish around for the right setting only to have to check on it every couple minutes to make sure the PSI isn't starting to shift too high or low.
For LC and agar 20 minutes of that is fine but when PCing grain I don't want to have to pace around the kitchen for an hour and a half. Any suggestions?

Too lazy to do the conversion atm, but my dehydrator goes up to 70C,guessing thats far from 300F.

The manufacturer seems to think it matters enough to give specifics, I'd rather rely on that.

Hey Mush Cultists!
So I’m planning to try a little experiment, and thought I should run it by The Cult first. Please, don’t hesitate to point out exactly why it’s idiotic.
I made some extra-thick no-pours in 1/2pint jars. My plan is to wait for 80%ish colonization, then basically do g2a - add grain on top of the myc. After the grain is colonized, I dump (just the grain) into 1 qt master that should colonize in about a week. Then I just wait for the agar surface to recolonize and repeat the cycle. The main benefit, as I see it, is getting away with minimal agar work while keeping cultures clean.
If this works and makes sense, I’m gonna do a write up and dub it Feldman’s Perpetual Master Tek and finally feel like I accomplished something in life.

No reason why it wouldn't work but I think it would be challenging to get sterile grain into a no pour and then get colonized grains out. The agar puck will likely pop out too.

Yeah those aborted and now the myc taking them back
I had some Amazons do that recently, had a killer pinset, they got about halfway mature then stopped growing, then started getting myc fuzz all over them
How do you know it's not a parasitic fungus contam? Never heard of a shroom eating itself.

Hey all, this jar is pretty contammed huh? Wanted opinion if I should toss.

Side note these are only 13 days* after colonization. This was all using Munchauzen's Blenderless Innoculant. 30 jars done, only the one looks sketchy to me. Try it out if you haven't!
*with ZERO light!

I've read the red light promotes mycelium growth, and blue light promotes fruiting, so he might be on to something
Wouldnt red tape then produce less red light reaching the sides? I mean, the red spectrum is being reflected back, which is why it looks red, so less red light makes it through. Same way you can use green light to illuminate a grow room without interrupting the dark cycle for plants.
I guess once it shrank youd get some light bouncing around the sides, or whatever gets scattered out through the plastic, kinda like shitty fiber optics.

I wouldn't toss it yet. While it's bacterial, it could still produce some nice fruits.

Oh, nice info, thanks! My desiccant packets just came in a zip lock with no instructions at all. Trying the oven then, but just with a few packs in case the bag catches fire or something.

All cubes?
I just started up again after a few years of being away from it, havent even spawned a tub yet, and Im already bored of growing cubes again
Anyways, I always do that too. This hobby leaves long periods of doing nothing but waiting, so if you wanna "play" with your myco stuff, you end up starting too many things lol. I tried to limit myself to 6 cube varieties this time. Really, I just wanna get some Reishi and Oysters and Lions Manes going. Maybe Ill go and order some LCs.
