Awesome!
I must have missed it, you using one of those turkey burners or something?
Funny connection to your torch question. I was just reading a bunch of heated discussion on whether or not it was reckless to use pressure cookers for alcohol extractions (like vanilla)
Lots of people have done it without issue, especially with the alc enclosed in jars.
but could you imagine the boom. lol

Just wanted to post on here and thank everyone for the constant flow of new information, dealing with the stupid repetitive questions from noobs like myself, and helping everyone along. I have learned a tremendous amount of info in a relatively short amount of time. I am seeing more and more why tough love is necessary here.

I’m sure he’s fine. A lot of people take breaks from the boards. He was here a few days, maybe a week ago, no?

I’m not sure, I was just going through some older threads and realized I hadn’t seen anything from him in what seems like a long time, and he was pretty much daily.
But you’re right real world stuff gets in the way of camping on shroomery now and then.

Hey y'all. Quick PC question. My presto 23 is stuffed with four gallon bags of grain. I'm curious why the water can still boil (I can hear it bubbling) when it is at pressure and no steam escapes the bobble (maybe a teeny hiss). I thought when its at pressure it is just below boiling.
My only guess is that all my cold bags in there make it so the bottom of the PC can boil, but enough heat is lost from the pot walls and warming of the bags that the some steam condenses.
Thoughts? Maybe it will go silent here in a bit, its only 30 minutes in at 15psi.

Did you vent steam for 10 mins before pressurising?

Then as long as it's still venting I'd think you're ok. It's when the steam stops and the gauge starts that you've got to worry. Did you weight the top of your bags with a plate or something?

I bleed for 10 minutes, put my bobble on (with extra weight) and brought it to 15psi. I've done this all a hundred times... I'm just listening to it now. I thought it should only boil as it was raising the pressure, then stop when it was steady at 15 psi.

Roger that. I thought I was going crazy. I'm attempting to do the most kind PC procedure to my pre-sealed bags, and I suddenly realized that my 25 minute bleeding at the beginning of my run might cause my bottom bags to begin to boil... so I'm dropping it to the standard 10 minute bleed. Some of my bags are distorting, and I'd like that to stop.

That's where you're wrong bucko! Sorry, couldn't pass up the opportunity lol. When you're venting, the water inside is near/at boiling, and as the PC builds pressure, the temperature inside increases. You can find charts around concerning psi in the PC and elevation above sea level, but as a rough idea, at 15psi the temp inside is around 250*F. Higher elevation requires more psi to achieve the same temps, which is why you'll see some posters running their PCs to 18-20 psi.

Stuff it fuller so nothing can expand. I don't worry about the water temp, heat, or even a slow cool down anymore and have been doing successful runs for a few cycles in a presto. 6 4lb bags
What size PC do you have?

My presto 23 is stuffed with 4 gallon bags (a gallon of grains, 6.25lbs about the same as you) I'm perfecting my spacers for the voids (where the bags are expanding into) Theres no real harm... they don't pop.
Side note, the pressure cooker is at 2 hours now, and I can hear almost zero boiling. So I think I was right about the cool bags allowing the PC to boil at the beginning.

This jar of wheat berries knocked up with pan cyan Jam has been neglected for a few days with what's going on. Is it garbage, or is it still usable?
