On the flip side my bottles gave verry little surface area but tend to give me at least 50% better yields than the same amount of substrate in a mono tub.

So do you guys suggest we grow from jars/(minimono maybe)/anything with less surface area for better yields?
Thanks in advance boys. Damn i love this, you just learn so many new things on the daily lol.

I advise you to grow with whatever method suits your lifestyle/budget/culture preference/success rate. All methods have upside and downside. I personally can't be bothered to only grow one way, that would get old fast. Be well rounded, understand the principles and nothing will stop you.

I've got 32 bottles going right now but I've also got 60 qts of spawn colonising for monos. If you don't mix things up this hobby starts to feel like a job.

So, when people talk about using grain soak water; I'm speaking of after colonized, how do you use that in the sub? Mix the bulk a bit dry? Or am I completely off base here? Thanks everyone. Dick

Is there any discussion on this? Ideal temp? How long they can be stored? What to put them in? etc.
Thanks.

there is no way to 'store' a cake. just toss it in a ziplock and put in the fridge. its not an exact science.

Im having the same problem. Im striping it all down, gunna buy a new PC and all. If its the coir thats the problem then the info on here needs to be seriously looked at.!!!!

Could you have avoided that if you had sterilized the coir? Or do they treat it with more than trich?

Can anyone identify the problem, and how to fix it?

Clearly contaminated. Well, clear after consolidating for about a week. I took two jars back from my z strain, if you recall. The 4 I spawned the tub turned green in just a few days. So I'm assuming, whatever is in this jar, was in the others. I'd like to find the cause, and fix it.
I'm currently experiencing the learning curve and frustrations of going from hearty PF cakes, to very finicky WBS.
Here's a decent list of possible vectors:
My PC is small and only holds 3 jars. I prepped up 23-26 quart jars, thinking okay I have agar, since the plates look awesome, let's make it worth the felony. It didn't occur to me that cooking 26 jars 3 at a time was gonna be a very long, slow, pain in the ass. The reason I note this is because I think I may have been lazy with the times. Some jars got 90 minutes, some likely got ten less minutes possibly. I just didn't set a timer for whatever reason.
The plates were only transferred off the spores once. But I posted a lot of pics and everyone said as long as no visible contams and myc looks good then it should be good to go.
I have well water, and mist my tub after it's finished. Why I don't know. Is the well water giving the trich? This wouldn't explain the contam in the jars though.
I'm using polyfil filters. I have some SFDs for the next jar run.
Thanks for any help.

Mold is pretty easy to kill with even a short PC cycle. We only do 90 minutes at 15PSI to deal with bacterial endospores. So I don't think it's your PC. Polyfill works great as a filter. Either your plates aren't clean or your inoculation technique needs some work.
