I was thinking before they even opened up.. how do u "carve" out the strings? If i can use a big ole glob i think i can do it, i just thought u wanted least amount of tissue possible

Tear the stipe in half starting from the top near where the cap was attached. With your your hands. Pull it apart like u would a wishbone from a turkey on turkey day. Try to make sure your fingers don't totally fondle the whole fruit. Just the top where the cap was. Then usually what I'll do is I'll place one half down on a sanitized surface. Or even a alcohol wipe. And with my knife I'll scrap the inside of the base. Very gently as to not push the blade all the way through. Those "strings" your talking about will start forming then once u have some tissue on your blade. Take your receiving plate and press the blade right into agar. Done Is how I was taught anyways. Works well

I always get a fresh sharp blade and make two diagonal cuts into the open stem, like cutting a V into it. Then I either stab the top of the v and pull it out or slice the top of it off.
It’s hard with smaller fruits but basically you gotta cut some sort of notch.
I am gonna try scraping the fibers though I’ve never heard that before.

I take a strand out of the center. Took two ackchully. You can see a tiny chunk in the plate.

Sometimes if cap is right you split it all in half and inside the cap right in the center is a nice chunk of flesh that's easy to remove a chunk. I'll do two from stem and one from cap. 3 plates when I do it

I got a brf puck I made 2-19 . Was wondering if it would be worth it to make a few master jars from that puck and expand... or start over. Here’s some pics.

Made 4 pucks all dident colonize fully . But I know the cultures clean maby just dident like the food because it’s been eating nun but oat. 🤷🏻♂️

I spared 1 to take a pic . Got 4 left. You think 1 puck to 5 quart masters will give me good colonize time? Like 3-4 days.

Nothing but a slurry will colonize a quart in 3-4 days. But 1 slurried puck will colonize 5 quarts in 3-4 days.

Hello everyone, first time poster here. I have a question that I don’t think deserves its own thread. I cannot find 70% or any percent rubbing/isopropyl alcohol for my monotub but I can find plenty of 151 proof everclear, which is roughly 75% alcohol content. Would I be doing any harm using the everclear instead of isopropyl?

How's it going You can fruit immediately after spawning to mono but I personally have had good luck with letting the spawn colonize for 2 or 3 days before adding the casing layer. Other than that fruiting directly does lots of people good because light has been proven beneficial in some way at all stages of growth. Happy mushrooming Stay chubby

I prefer to let the surface colonize before introducing FAE. I'll usually up fae once it's about 70% colonized. U can most def introduce higher levels of fae the day you spawn your tubs just keep an on your substrate drying out. Seems to be more susceptible to drying out when "fruiting at spawning"

Why would use alcohol for a mono? Like... where? Wipe the walls down with it? I guess that works but it doesn’t work as well as soap and water lol use antibacterial soap.
Also AWNO: do mean the physical spores or on agar? If you mix up a bunch of spores on foil or whatever they’re on they’ll most likely separate themselves when put to agar, but if you use an extremely small amount of each spore print on agar you may get a varietal cross, which isn’t all that likely but if it were to happen you would probably have to go through a few runs and clone cultures to get it separated, but that to me sounds pretty damn difficult without like, a microscope and some serious notes on the original cultures.
