why is that? is a 2x2 not sufficient enough for agar? need more space? or what?
No. No. 2x2 is good for all of it but it constricts how much room you have if you got an assembly line of agar, jars ,or bags. Bags is a little hard given the height of the bags to do like A2G or G2G.
With a 2x4 or 1.5x4 you have a lot more room from right to left ya know. But if your only doing agar its perfect or even overkill. But won't you be using jars and grains? I use my 2x2 for all the stuff mentioned above and have no issues except tight spaces of the 2x2 flow.
Ah ya i see wat ur saying. I work in a walk in closet and i have shelves behind me. My thought was i could just work in fron of the hood, finish my transfers turn around n put em on the shelf n grab more n repeat. Unless i have to leave stuff in front of the hood for a certain amount of time?
Ya ill be doing jars, n gtg so maybe i should take ur advice n do a 2x4 Idk im still debating on wat i wanna do. I have the plans in my head im just not sure on the filter or size.. i guess i have to do some more research before pulling the trigger. The sab is good its just hurting my back and with all my projects the thought of agar work is starting to put me off a bit.. like ita becomming a pain in the ass

I can do 10 jars at a time in front of my 2x2 and plenty of petri dishes. If i had the space I would definitely go for a 3 x 2.

You can do everything with a 2x2 like hobbit said. Thats what I built because my space is limited. It gets a little cramped with bags, but not that bad. A 2x4 would be optimal though. Room for everything. But will be very heavy. I can move my 2x2 around if needed.

you guys get this hulls and shit on your grains too ?

I've been having great luck with this: (I do gallon bags, so jars like a tad bit more water)
Dry wheat, boiling water added, put on stove top, 11 minutes to boil. boil for 43 minutes. drain. shake around for a minute.... make a bunch of steam. Load. pc. turns out great. only do a gallon at a time... don't try to do a ton... or it will take longer than 11 minutes to bring to a boil.... Thats where I went wrong before. tablespoon of gypsum.

How do those without flow hoods pour plates without getting condensation? I poured my plates and left the tops of the dishes off until it solidified but still experienced significant condensation.

Pour as cool as you can before solidifying. If you can't hold the bottle bare hand without sitting it down every 10 pours or so, it's too hot. Pour plates, stack, and let sit over night. The top 2 plates will have more than the rest but after 12-24 hours pretty all has dissipated. Leave them unwrapped in SAB until condensation is gone then either wrap and store or start swabbing and transferring.

Damn man, it must be exhausting carrying around those brass balls of yours around all day. Haha How active is your landlord in your lording of land area? Meaning, how likely is he\she to come into your house for non-emergencies? Not ideal but if you want access to larger equipment but still need them to not be there at times, go to Goodwill (or similar thrift\ second hand store) and look at large cabinets\armoires\entertainment centers that have a lock on the front, or that you could install one. Sometimes sewing machine cabinets work really well because they often lock and have plenty of unobstructed room to use and many have pull out shelves sturdy enough to support a sewing machine. Anyway, the point is, a piece of furniture that can be locked and contents can not be seen. I built mine and added some paint and trim to make it look nicer but you can probably find a truly nice used piece that will work for $50ish
Shit, sorry, thought I was commenting on different threads... I haven't smoked yet today so I'm a bit off.

Now ive used white millet for a while now I think it should be the grain of choice for beginers. Boil water add millet leave for at least 30 minutes its ready to use anytime before it ferments....... so easy

I'm just getting into the millet game. Does it not really require drying like rye or oats? From what I could find, that step was always omitted with them
I soaked for 24 hours, rinsed, strained well, and loaded my jars still pretty damp. They seem to be good... no clumping, they roll around really easily and don't get stuck to the jar or anything... probably gained about 1.75% volume (9 cups turned to ~16).... Put some agar to them and it's certainly leaping off, but not quite as quickly as my rye.
Think I'll try your boil method tonight, ed. Just want to make sure I'm not missing anything.

i used to do millet , red and white , but it 5 times the price as wheat , and not really available here
i'm thinking i'll try it for some masters jars ;
and for the wheat yesterday i dropped some boiling water into a bucket half full with wheat grains , i'll see it later and wash the shit out of it see if i can make it work with dish soap lime and stuff , i really want to dominate wheat as it is almost free
wish me luck !

U literally boil the water, dump in the grains and 30 minutes later they are decent. I prefer a little longer to soak but when you have to bash it out quick 30 works.
I just pour them into a massive sieve and let them rinse for 10 minute, load the jars up just under half full and they come out great everytime

I feel ya. I love building my own stuff. You can make it EXACTLY what you need instead of something that works. I build a coffee maker into my headboard. Brilliant, and I wouldn't have found it for the price it cost me. Also Goodwill and such are sometimes good sources of cheap lumber. If you have a $5 shelf made of $20 worth of lumber and hardware it's a win sometimes. My girlfriend and I were talking about this yesterday and I don't own a single piece of furniture that wasn't free, second hand, or built by myself; and several of those were built for a few dollar and scrape pieces. I'm also a cheap bastard so slightly janky looking shelves and cabinets and such are neither a concern nor out of the ordinary.
Also not a bad idea to have some oysters or something growing to justify the lab equipment and such. Though my attempt at oysters was a shameful failure.....

Fuckin corona virus fear took over my town, there is no iso ANYWHERE

I bet a bunch of 80 year olds bought it all up, who are probably gonna die if they catch it anyways.
Do these people somehow think they can use isopropyl alcohol to effectively clean every fucking surface they are gonna be around? Like what in the fuck is going on. Does this even make sense?
I have less than 250mL left
Even uline is sold out here, and they jacked the prices before they sold out
