Yeah man, idk lol
Part of me feels like we are mostly equals in this hobby, then discussions like that make we wonder wtf some of ya'll do on a daily basis to acquire that level of understanding for a "hobby"
Don't get me wrong, I absolutely aspire to at least understand what is being said, if not be able to contribute.
These guys make me feel like they take microbiology classes on the weekend and study in labs every other Thursday or something lol
*and part of me fears its just having a "knack" for this stuff or way of thinking that I pray I am not lacking :bongload:

I’d guess selfing refers to going back to the original spores but I have no idea.

selfing is what you are doing when you take a print, basically when you use the print it's inbreeding. not an issue in the short run but over years problems may come up

I would assume it’s what you said cam, cloning a sample from each new grow and narrowing genetic too far, leading possibly to scenesence? Although all of our TCs say we probably won’t see that problem, if you have a clone culture that’s already genetically Narrow, and you continue to narrow genetics, I feel like you might have a problem with that.

I haven’t started that thread yet though so I’m prob wrong lol

If i remeber correctly selfing was not to do wirh cloning but instead using spores from the same lineage over and over. I may be completely wrong and probablyeven worded it weong but in my mind thats what I took it to mean. By same lineage I dont mean same spore print either. Just from the same line of genetics as in you would grow b+ then print it, then use that print to grow b+ again, and print it, and so on. Or basically domestication but to the extreme. If that makes sense. Maybe we should message one of the TCs to see if they can come clear this up.

I was thinking of back cross.

I feel you cam, I’ve been thinking about getting some books on genetics and fungi to try and speed up getting a handle on all this lol.

it's something we utilize when we are trying to stabilize genetic traits so we may take a f4 culture and back cross with a f3 or 2 or whatever, I went from f5 back crossed to f3 on my golden cock culture because I had everything I wanted visually  but my yield had suffered and lacked spore production .
my f3 I had good yield good spore color and about 25% of the fruits looked like pe. by f5 they all looked like pe but yield was more typical of golden halo but spore production was certainly on the pe side of things so hopefully back crossing can help me get to where I want to be

Back-crossing in a nutshell (made this up for sake of example):

golden teacher x penis Envy = golden penis

golden teacher x golden penis would be back-crossing

So, say you don't have that parent culture.
How effective is backcrossing within the same offspring cross? Is that how melmac resurfaced from PE's, or was the parent still around?

it's super effective if they are compatible. melmac came about because somebody literally got old ass pe spores to germinate from a homestead kit

this is the road I am on now but it's tricky, as we have seen with pe6 and tidal wave when you get a pe cross that rejects spores you often loose the real pe look and often potency but the dream of a leaning cock with yellow scattered under it on a bright white substrate is worth it:lol:

Ah... nice.

So, you can theoretically breed back in the heterzygous traits to get it pretty damn close to it's wild origin? Assuming you know those traits...
I mean, obviously that's a serious crapshoot, but at least puts a good amount of diversity back into it.

Bwaha, I love it! :laugh2:

So Teem Telephone took a hit today!
I  got a txt msg from USPS that my package was picked up by customer at the Post Office.
So I drove down and the Postmaster checked, pick up time, cameras, which agent gave it out.
I'm waiting for a call hopefully they get my packages back.

So tracking and getting txts really paid off this time.
:ruggedwink:

That's nutty man. Hopefully they find it and you are not waiting on it to start your agar work.
I've had it happened a couple times where they would simply scan the wrong package or scanned the wrong code. instead of scanning it for out for delivery, they scan it as picked up or delivered. It took me putting a camera on my mailbox before they took me seriously, and I'm still not convinced that it was not a mailman's malicious intent, but once they realize they're actually was an issue they looked into it and fixed it fairly quickly. I still lost five or six packages before that happened, but if they are indeed looking into it there's a chance they will find something. I got lucky because when I first went through them with the video and the date and time stamp, they told me there was no way I could prove that date and time was set correctly. It just so happened that the day in question was Halloween and there were lots and lots of trick or treating kids and parents walking in front of my mailbox. That's the only reason they took me seriously.

Ok, happy ending, case closed,
Whomever brought our packages back to the Post Office.
And I didn't even have to wait for Haloween!
So Team Telephone can ride tonight onna lite Pilsner.  :laugh2:
:panic:
