wbs is mostly milo which has a small volume. the smaller the grain the more u can get away with it. thats why u can steam BRF in 90 min

Yea but this wasn't specific to wbs I was using mostly wbs but also rye and wheat. Plus my wbs isn't all Milo and millet. I mean that's a big part of it but I use the one with cracked corn sunflower seeds and a bunch of other grains. The that was mixed 50/50 with whatever other grain I had on hand at the time. Idk exactly what to attribute my success at the time to, but I doubt it was small grains. I only say this because there were also bigger grains in there. I even remember running popcorn wbs mix for 60 minutes.
I wouldnt do it now, but I am trying to cut back my time a little now that I'm not using oats much.
1.5 hours should be fine at least for something with no hull right?
Wbs doesn't really have any grains with hulls. The barley that. Using now does but I'm seeing how that goes now. I'll let you guys know if they all fked or if it's fine. I feel like if we aren't using oats no need to go 2 hours though. Maybe we all tend to overcook the shit outta the grains when it's not necessary.

should be fine. honestly its the oats that got my time up to 2 hrs as well and I've just stuck with it for good measure.  my power bill is a flat rate tho:shrug:

Making really low nutrient agar will encourage them to run fast, which should help keep anything else out of your selection (unless it comes from your sterile technique).
8g LME / 20g agar / 1L H2O will see them running quite fast.

Or you could just take a clone.

Hot pours work well for bacteria but not really for intermeshed mold. Can you describe your hot pour technique?

Also I'm not familiar with the sandwich tek can you describe.
If it's the same thing that I'm thinking of you just a agar puck on top of the culture?
If this is the case it will perform about the same as the hot pour maybe a little worse.
Can you post pics of the cultures you are using. Also the grain jars before you spawn.

I literally just overcame a 4 year penicillium mold problem. I'm not really sure how, but it helped to post all my cultures and spawn before hand to ask for opinions and also tightening up my sterile Tek. I also changed grain like 10 times deep cleaned the crib 15-20 times, switched spawn. Used actual pasteurization. A bunch of controls, and other shit.
Along the way I kinda just solved my problems some how.

I blame cronicr. His let's grow some mold thread really motivated me to face my problems head first instead of just giving up and saying fuck it for the 2nd or 3rd time. Cron if you read this thank you bro I am very grateful. even though there have been times we disagreed in the past you helped me through some bad times. This time it was all or nothing I was going to succeed or give up completely.

dmppb you can definitely overcome this probablem it's all about will power homie you got this.

Haha. I've heard a bunch of people complaining about it, but I don't use one.
Might be better off getting a face shield like c10 uses. Seems physically practical.

You can always wear a bandana if you’re worried about breathing on your projects. Pretty unnecessary though IMO.

Yeah it's trust about SAB work. I definitely see a difference is success rate with and without mask. Top of SAB isn't perfectly clear and poor lighting means I sometimes end up looking through the armholes and would breathe into it in the process. Also without a mask, I tend to hold my breath while working to prevent issues but then I kinda forget to breathe. Haha
Yeah a bandana or something similar would work, and I'm not out of masks yet, just HOLY FUCK these prices are insane!

thanks for your words gizmo , i am beating this fucking bacteria and mold problem like i have before ;  and 4 years ! damn it's been 2 months for me

question ; you still pasteurize your final substrate ? i'm thinking of going back to that for the moment

the sandwich tek is just cutting a square from a plate and putting it on top of the transfered agar wedge i've read that bacteria won't grow across the patch of agar but mycelium will ,

hot pour i just do my usual transfer and the pour warm almost solidifying agar on top to cover it ,

i'm also thinking of changing grain and/or grain prep  , my main focus right now is my agar and grain , first things first right ?

example of my dishes and jars :

Both you guys have been helping me while I've been in a growing rut. Sorry you had a hard time... but to be honest, it helps me knowing others have struggled as well. I spent the past few years focused on my tub dialing... then my spawn... now I'm realizing my effing plates are likely bad. I was also unlucky.... I see first time grow logs and I kinda wanna give up. I'm so determined tho. What a weird recreation.

Holy hell, 10pk for 2 years? I fly through those compared to that. But yeah, all stores are sold out right now. Every website is charging $80-100 or more for shipping. People are selling them on eBay for $3 each. All because of this coronavirus bullshit.

I wish I had stocked up more sooner, then I could be one of those assholes selling a 50 pack for $150
