Hey so I'm wandering if I should case this now with jiffy. 3 58qt tubs melmak oat spawn with coir and verm. When I spawned the bags it smelt stale. Bland earthy. They smell like stale coir now. Any way here is a link to my grow log.
https://www.shroomery.org/forums/showflat.php?Cat=0&Number=26393720&page=0&vc=1#26393720

Can anyone give me any tips.

I have a clone of what was given to me as PE (print). I don't know if it is. Here is the parent.

Here is tub of the clone that I cased about 90% with jiffy.

So that's my first real casing. It panned out pretty good. Wondering if I'll need to bottom water these.?

So should I case the 3 tubs now or do melmak need it. They was pseudo cased at spawn. I know they don't blob, but it would help right?

Yeah I don’t think that’s PE...  Doesn’t seem to have the usual characteristics.  Sweet pin set either way.  You should only bottom water if they need it.  That heavy of a pin set on PE would probably need it and you can tell by how the casing turns blue about mid way through flushing... PE just sucks the living hell out of a sub and it happens in like a day lol

so another round of Trich or Myc??

Is it a clone or ms?  Looks like myc to me.. trich is usually brilliant white and not fluffy like that, ime.  Could be some grains are close to the top of the top layer and producing some different, thicker myc.

Does gypsum soak into grains or is it more of a surface thing?

I have a strong feeling that the osomisate or whatever Under the hull but that’s it. Keeps the grains starch inside and from being too sticky if they do burst. You don’t really need it, I’m a super forgetful person and would always leave the gypsum out by accident.

I'm not really sure what you said. The first part. I also forget to use it most of the time. Even though I've been using it for like 9 years now lmao. I used to crush drywall and use that because garden gypsum wasn't available locally. It's still not but now I have a car and a home Depot within a 2 hour drive.
I guess my real question is if you soak in gypsum water does the grain absorb some of that? Back in the day it was suggested not to rinse after simmering because you would wash off the gypsum and lose the steam drying action. Now most people rinse then dry the grains.
I like to soak in gypsum water then blanch the grains in clean fresh water before steaming dry and pcing.
I'm wondering if I am wasting gypsum or of it still has some benefit.
I know I can add it after, but thats not how I do it. Really looking to know specifically if grains can absorb gypsum if anyone knows. I've been pondering this for awhile.

Roomate turned off the heating in my room while I was out on vacations without telling me. It didn't feel below 0 degrees (32 for you poor imperial slaves), but stuff seems to have stalled to a halt. Just cake jars and agar, but still, was hoping to come back to stuff ready to go.

Is my mycelium dead, or just hibernating?

As long as it didn’t freeze, just warm it back up and it should start growing again
