I always go for a handful I dont measure at all. Im pretty sure gypsum doesn't do much for PH though. It will change it a little but its not going to fix your mold problem. What finally helped me beat my 4 year battle with mold was delving deeper into agar and really learning to examine and get an eye for it. Tightening up my sterile tek, and last but certainly not least I've been posting everything to shroomery and having the good folks here help me to judge my plates and spawn while at the same time training my eye to recognize the good from the bad and the ugly. Anything sort of questionable I straight toss into the compost. I get plenty of garden mushrooms though so its not a complete waste.
I'm all in on questioning my agar work. I was running my mycelia too long, so I started fresh from spores. My plates are needing a few more transfers to look good. I got impatient and put some to grain... they are currently growing out. What I found frustrating about this stage of my knowledge is that 1) my plates always looked fine 2)spawn grew out fine and smelled fine 3)tubs grew fine, until full consolidation.... then green. I seem to only struggle with invisible or extremely hard to perceive problems. If I would have known that from the beginning, I would have played with agar for a few months and posted my plates for critique. I believe thats where my success lies. The cleanliness in my grow area is a side interest. (and I find it controversial and that interests me)

I'll keep that in mind. Coir is so successful for so many peeps, I gotta be able to make it work. I am using fancier stuff now. Growit blocks really take water in and hold it.
I’ve heard only good things about growit coir

Tedoro, I was growing in my mold factory of a basement. Wooden rafters above all of my work straight infested with different types of mold. I didn’t check there until I lost one of my prized cultures. Here’s what I did: Got painters plastic from menards (or Home Depot) Staple gun Sealed off the ceiling to keep mold spores from falling onto my work Started pasteurizing my coir.
I still would get ssooommmeee green tubs but it was usually only after a good first flush. Workplace cleanliness is kind of important but good sterile technique and staying away from fresh mold spores should help. Everyone says pasteurizing coir is a waste of time but it helped me (I think) If you can’t do all that I’d suggest moving your growing area, or at least spawning and inoculating somewhere else

I'm curious, what is the biggest single flush you guys have had?
Also what's the largest single fruit?

hey people ;
how much time you guys run your PC cicles for grain jars ?
i have some serious bacteria problems and i can't see any other reason but the PC cycle , i go for 1 hour 30 minutes at 16 psi , which has been enough for years ; maybe my prestos are giving up , or maybe my filter in the flowhood ?
my agar looks good , usually like this and now even a little better , my current flushes are looking like this ; so even though bacterial they put out some fruits ; and my jars look like these ones most of the time , but at some point during g2g expansion they become ovbiously bacterial ? what's your opinion ?
thanks

I’ve only done shoeboxes but PE ms has been my best so far. Like 350 wet from one quart first flush. I know there’s guys that hit like 500+ though with a shoebox.
I don’t get big shrooms my record is like 40 wet.
Look up the triple digit monster thread there’s some that are like an ounce dry.
Dmp that last jar looks good to me, but I’m not a spawn blackbelt yet. I hope that jars good cuz I got a bunch just like it.

Cool thread, thanks
I just posted my personal best in there. Nearly every single fruit in the flush was over 100g, biggest was 295g. Total wet weight of flush was 3495g

Anyone know how many flushes monos will give on average? How will I know when a tub is finished? I am planning on having two tubs going cyclically once I figure out what the hell I'm doing.

Lol I thought so too! Here are a few more fruits from that flush, smaller than the monster but still huge

Of course I did! And i made prints and sent them to like 50 people on here. I keep hoping to see someone post something from the line i sent out (labeled "AA+ Monster")
The culture sucks for canopies, but ALWAYS puts out monsters. I just kinda got lucky that time to have so many. The amount of water it sucked up during fruiting was insane

Anyone know a good way of clearing up condensation on 60mm petris. Im pouring cool enough that im getting clumpimg in the agar and still get condensation duting the winter. Summer its not so bad. I normally use 90mm and I just set a jar of hot water and stack them as high as possible. With the 60mm cups and jars are too big and keep knocking over the stacks. Ive beem using 100ml pyrex beakers but they cool too fast and I only have enough to cover 3 sleeves. Im pouring atleast 4 sleeves at a time. Any tips? Im frustrated as fuck right now.

I pour mine just when I can see is start to thicken, like get syrupy. But after I pour them they sit on the counter open until I have the PC ready. Once I close them up and pc they come out clear and stay clear. They aren't out a long time but maybe ten min. Just long enough to become solid when I tip it.

I do that on my no pours but probably not a good idea when working with 40 or more sterile petris.

If you have anyway to heat the room your pouring in that helps. In the summer my garage gets hot as shit. I can pour the agar straight out of the PC and not get condensation cause the room is so hot. Now that it's winter I pour them a week before I need em so they can dry up a tad.

Cool thread!
Im just restarting growing again. Knocked up some rye jars with clone myc I grew on agar. Getting slow growth, in particular in middle jar. Time is now 3 weeks after inocculation. no shake yet.

Thinking this could be due to grains too dry (RR method, soaked 6hrs) or possible contam in the middle jar (different clone than other 2 jars). Curious about opinions of better trained eyes
