I had not considered that.
Idk man. Water turns to steam at 212F, and the temp inside a PC @ 15psi is about 250F. 38F doesnt seem like much of a difference. Thnk i may run a test for shitz 'n giggles. Drill a hole in my pot lid, stick a thermometer in there and steam away to see what temp it reaches. Im thnking it gets a little hotter than 212F.
You can steam sterilize grains, it just takes longer than 2 hours.

If it was prone to contamination you'd think it would occur in the bag long before we ever get to it.

re: jiffy mix. this here was prepped by simply pouring boiling water over it. i think macmerdin recommended it. i put this together several months ago, haven't opened the lids since, and nothing bad has happened.
it's not jiffy brand mix, tho, it's a commercial equivalent seed germinating mix. seems like it works.

Hi All,
I started 18 PF Tek jars on December 14th (Cube B+. This is my first grow.
It has now been 55 days and everything still looks good. The sides have looked good all along but the bottoms of the some of the jars are just now getting white. I expect they will be ready to move to fruiting chamber by next week. That will be about 60 days from inoculation. Does this sound right to you guys. I was expecting 4 - 5 weeks.
Just checking

Hey guys, this might not be the right thread to ask this but i actually think i DO have a pressure cooker. It looks like one at least. A big pot with a handle and a cover that has a seal and port on top with threads that i think a pressure gauge might have been on. If this thing really is a pressure cooker, i think i need some hardware for it. I have never used a pressure cooker before, what do i need to get this thing operational? Im guessing a new seal (even tho it does seem completely fine, i should replace it?) and a gauge and some sort of pressure valve?

Its pretty dusty

If you find a brand and model number you'll be able to find it, if it can be found.
Otherwise $60 will get you a nice one.
Won't know if you need one until you do a test run, may as well order a seal if you're ordering stuff, probably just a few bucks.

Doesn’t look like any PC I’ve ever seen, but it could work for steam sterilization.

Nah that’s a pc lid, but it looks like the kind that would go on a pot that only fits a few jars

I am pissed off. Today is not my day. Just spilled my entire cup of coffee into the last of my coir. Have jars waiting to be spawned and I cant get coir locally. I guess im going to be pasteurizing coir, coffee, compost and straw mix tonight. I guess that way its not a complete waste.
 Thats alot of coir.

Damn brother, you can’t order some coir off Amazon with prime and get it tomorrow? No pet stores around ya? Petco and petsmart always have eco earth....
That really blows. Some people add coffe to their coir though, just contam prone. It’ll be fine if you high temp pasteurize it.

Looks healthy but them damn white millets are tricky as fuck. They don’t look colonized even when they are. That’s why I like to use pure red mullet when I can find it.

Im going to order some but doubt it'll get here until after monday evem with prime. Nearest petstore is a 3 hour round trip. Well nearest one with coir we have one locally but the dont carry reptiles or reptile gear because they are a "family pet store" what ever that means. I guess a family cant have a pet reptile lmao.

Does anyone else have an issue with a greasy film forming on birdseed after it's been simmered?
