Decent amount of moisture inside the jar, spiky unorganized lookin growth in some spots, etc. They look like oats. Honestly it's kinda hard to read oats but clean myc on oats looks uniform and light or even kinda faint.
That said, oats blow. If those aren't oats though then I would definitely say without a doubt that it looks bad and almost not worth using at all.

This jar is mostly oats yes with some other grains mixed in. I know the grains look like they are super wet but that is only condensation against glass thankfully but I have problems with condensation during winter and especially on the outer jars and ones that sit next to the mini fridge. During the summer it's not as bad.
I've got another candidate that I'm curious about also looks a little sketch to me. Give me a minute and I'll update this post with a pic. Edit: So another jar that also seems a little sketchy to me from 3 different angles just like the last.
Can you guys please give opinions

Those ultra-bright white spots are bacterial mycelium. Same with the first ones you posted. Iβve found that I need to PC my oats for 2 hours, and thatβs more than itβs worth so I switched to mullet. Way less bacterial problems and the same price.

Yup. I used them with reasonable success doing tamps. But could never get cosistant results.

I'm all sensitive because I believe I had a very subtle contam on my transfers for a few years... and my plates looked good, my bags grew out okay, recovered from shakes well, and always smelled fine. But man, mold city around my first flush. So now I'm skeptical that I have clean agar and LI technique. And when I heard that healthy cube mycelia is ONLY translucent... I got a bit sad that I'm not there yet.
Figuring out contam vectors can be a total bitch. I reworked almost everything I was using this time out to rule them out and by dog it worked.
But there will always be the occasional protocol breach in which case:

Is it common for growth to look weird on super soft agar??
I made some plates to try the sagari thing where itβs so soft it dissolves into li when you shake it.
Almost all of them have huge clear leading edges, like up to 1/3 inch, and the myc on top seems to randomly be visible.
Iβll get some pics soon but if I hold the plate to light so I can see the clear edge the growth is uniform circular, but looking at it normally it looks crazy uneven.

I've been dealing with the same thing. I think when agar gets real soft the mycelia sorta digs in. all my cultures are doing that on my soft agar.

I have a germ plate on the softest agar Iβve ever made, the cap leaked while pcing the sagari bottle and even more water got in.
Anyway I swiped spores on it and thereβs a ton of growth but almost none on the surface. Itβs actually inside the agar puck. Which is perfect for what Iβm trying to do since it can grow until the whole plate is colonized instead of just the surface.
The weird growth on the other soft plates just surprised me, some were fourth and fifth transfers so I knew the wedge was good but thought maybe I had poured contaminated agar or something. It seems like the only kind of growth that looks totally normal is the rhizo that looks like little threads.

He's pretty spot on. Clean myc looks wispyer and uniform and bacterial myc looks thick, splotchy, and icecreamy

Love wheat berries. 20 min simmer(not boil), strain, load, PC. No burst grains, not to wet. I let it strain for longer if I'm using lc or li.
