How do you know when the APEs are done Caps? This is the 1st time fruiting them, looking for a clone outta here
That looks like a beautiful cluster right there......
Is there any real harm in waiting until they mature to pick a clone?
and I'll pose the same question here: When are APE ready for harvest? Bluer caps, or will they open up a bit more?
If I have time still (assuming I do) I wanna take my 1st shot at some swabs as well.

say, has anyone used a heat transfer pad between a pressure cooker and a stovetop to make more contact happen? My stove coils are always uneven. I've also had some luck pounding my PC bottom flat.

I see no reason why it would not work. But is your stovetop really that bad? How long does it take to come up now? If it was just a hotplate it may be more of a wattage issue but for a stove top I'm not sure how much you would gain from it. But if you already have one go for it.
So I have been messing around with trying to find the right ratio to hydrate WBS in the PC run. I have 2 runs worth of jars that did not hydrate enough that I was counting as a loss. But after running 20+ jars yesterday I decided to try something with them. I threw them back in a bucket and covered with boiling water for 1+hours. Draining them now and I am 99% sure they will be over "cooked" after PC run. At this point though if they don't work I'm no farther behind so even 1 out of 14 jars is a win. Gonna give em a shot but what's the consensus on over hydrated WBS? Any tips or is this an exercise in futility?

I have a huge problem overhydrating wbs. I usually fill the bucket of seeds with water and let it sit overnight, then in the morning start the pc, but I can only run one jar at a time. So usually i cook up the seeds over the course of two days, most of the time i dump the water half way through the first day but I never really dry them correctly either, just scoop a bunch In the strainer and leave if sitting for two hours until the cookers ready again.
It’s been fine, sometimes the bottom of the jar gets super compact cuz the myc love that grain water. Throwing a little verm in the bottom will fix most of it too.
Now that I’ve got agar and clean spawn I’m actually prepping the seeds right. My main thing with too wet jars is it’s hard to tell if there’s bacteria or just water.

My concern mostly is efficiency and potential damage to the PC because the element is only in contact in a few places... glowing bright orange elsewhere. I think I need new elements.

@A.k.a.-Right on, that gives me some hope. I used to do the over night soak, and it works great, I just hated the timing. When I first moved on from PF Tek my first grain was popcorn. Out of curiosity (I do this a lot) and knowing spore to grain was not a good idea, I went ahead and noc'd a few jars, one being bit overcooked, with an MSS and that one actually germinated in about the same time you would expect with BRF. I always hypothesized that this was because the burst kernels gave the spore a place to take hold and germ better than the normally hydrated jars. I have plenty of MSS right now and was thinking of giving this another shot as a bit of a test of my hypothesis. Also have some agar and grain spawn I can throw in there but why not.
@tedoro- ah, gotcha. May be able to just pop the coil out like for cleaning and bend them back in alignment. If you have a think bottomed PC it shouldn't be an issue though. Not much different than a gas stove burner. Areas of flame would be hotter than say the center of the pot.

This whole statement sounds terrifying....
The drip pan/seating ring might be out of alignment. Or, yeah, the element might just need be replaced.
When you say 'pounding your PC bottom flat'....?

I think you’re right about the burst kernels. I notice a lot of myc poking out of split seeds in my jars early on. Must be the soft wet inside is easy to eat.

Buy a new element. Pounding your pc bottom flat will change the structure of the pc. Why not do the simplest possible thing and purchase a new element.
Even if you don't, it's way easier to support the element with a metal flange than pounding out your pc bottom, lol.

When I set my Presto PC's down on a flat surface, some had a slight convex bulge. Easily made flat with a 2x4 and a rubber mallet. I highly advise checking yours. Likely harder to do with an AA.

That's what I thought. Warped PC's are definitely dangerous. Obviously, you can get away with it sometimes. But, do beware.
I have a presto, too. From 2007. Still level as the day I got it.

Its kinda why I brought up the uneven electrical elements. Seems bad for a thin Presto.

Hmmm. My Tefal pc is round on the bottom, but I assumed that was on purpose - to provide more space for extra water. There’s basically a 1.5 qt reservoir under my bottom PC rack. And it was definitely not flat when I got it either.

If it has bulged and been hammered back flat then I would almost guarantee there are stress fractures in the metal just growing and waiting. I would like in to a new PC if I were you.
As for the stove top, I think fixing\replacing the coil is a better option than heat transfer plate.
