I have been just slapping one sfd on each jar and it works fine enough, but seems like they may be drying out a bit. So I made some modified lids (both with smaller sfd patches and made them one piece) to see if that fixes it, or just need to make the grain a little more wet.

do you think that grey wispy spot is just thin mycelium, or do I have hidden mold showing itself? some other spots like that ended up growing in thicker and looking whiter but IDK. maybe I'm just going paranoid.

If you blow the photo up (zoom in fully) you can see pretty well the difference, the strands of mycelium on the greyer spot are really, unorganized

It does look a bit different but from the pic it looks like the bottom of jar may be the same. I wouldn't abandon it just yet if it were me, but would probably shake one more time and see if any green pops up before spawning. I have had some AA+ that always grew really wispy at first. Sorry I don't have a more definitive answer for you.

Nobody replied going to quote myself, curious what you guys think. Might have to make my own thread this one moves so quick it was hard to get replies for this :shrug3:

Id shake it and see if it colonises. Im thinking you have a few things growing in there though

Hey y’all, does anyone have any ideas for liner material that isn’t trash bag? I know Saran Wrap won’t work because it’s cellulose, but how about like.... wax/parchment paper? I’ve cut my budget down hugely and my break is coming to an end soon, and I’m gonna go back to trying some more traditional and cost effective methods.

Well that’s what I have been doing, but my reading as of late (with virtually no posting) has led me to believe a liner gives a slight advantage due to curbing the effects of less-than-perfect coir prep. Is it wrong to think that way?
Also harvest becomes easy as fuck because every time I try to “float my sub” per bods harvest tek everything gets wet and fucked up and I don’t like it 😂 obviously I can just reach my hand in and harvest but my tubs are talllllll and my budget has drastically lowered so I’m working with what I’ve got right now. That’s not to say I’m low on supplies, I have more than I need, just don’t have enough bread to go buying new supplies when I get back on the train.

I am still under the impression that liners don't fix proper surface conditions, and I think most that use them do so for ease of clean up. But I am sure ppl are about to think its the answer to getting canopies

Does anybody know if it’s possible for a plate to absorb moisture from other plates? I have a drawer with a little box a sleeve of plates came in that I use to keep a bunch of older T1s and stuff I won’t need anytime soon.
They’re all stored in a big stack I laid on its side inside the box.
Anyhow I was going through them just now and one was about 1/3rd full of water somehow. None of these were particularly wet and a lot of them are over 5 weeks old.
I just can’t figure out how so much water ended up in one plate only. They’re all wrapped as well.

Obviously, this is the work of a poltergeist.
But rly, no idea. Could you have made a soft agar batch and this is the only remaining plate of the batch? Soft agar will “migrate” overtime if you tilt the plate.

Liners help those who struggle with decent surface conditions

Im now using liners cause the harvesting does my head in.....

Yeah, that's kinda what I was getting at.
Damn ninja mold, if I knew I would have never opened these plates in front of the hood. Gonna lysol the front of it and wipe all the sides and shit down.
Have you done this before? Anything else I can do to try and clean the flowhood?
Quote:
p9hu7 said: They're everywhere already anyways. It makes no difference.
For flowhood it sucks cause if you open moldy plate it blows the mold spores all over your work area and possible any other cultures and stuff in the flow or even in the surrounding area. It can definitely fuck your shit up. Kinda disappointed with myself but I never noticed it until it was in jars .
Now looking at the plates, I can see a couple with "iffy" areas that I thought were just fluffy.
Oh well. Time to get out the SAB

ive thought long and hard about that flowhood mush cult vouchsafe, especially as would buy a prefab due reasons... yah, it does blow out so all contams get blown out, and into room/house sporeload... not good for us as we live in a 1k/sf 70yo house and all mush cult is in small bedroom. (contams blown out also implies not need to stress your FH got fscked from the bad jar rather ariel sporeload may have increased for a day or ten- wholehouse FAE in order, change FH prefilter and open yer winders!
think i can dumb down my FH desires a notch or three for the season. if BiL is game maybe a construct for summer solstice/birfday.

There are mold spores everywhere, they're inescapable. Opening a plate in your house will not noticeably increase the spore load in your house, flowhood or not.
You are literally covered in them as we speak.
