As long as you practice good technique and don't pass arms over sterile things, dander shouldn't be an issue. I actually have an inductions coil that I used for heating stuck nozzles for my 3d printer but yes, I am interested in seeing you DIY one. I had thought about that before, but it was simpler to just grab my torch than dig out the coil.

BFH I used to shower and do my work slightly damp in a towel........not a great picture but it worked most of the time......

I did that early on as well. I was super conscious about contams and would only do SAB work immediately after a shower. All of my clothes are permanently covered in dog hair so I would do it before even getting fully dressed. I have since given up on that mentality. Realized it's more about technique than absence of contams. Now I just pull my hair back, mask and glove up, and iso hands and arms up to elbow. Of course results are expected to improve with experience but I have had significantly better results with my latter approach than with the former.

That is why i prefer the lysol wipes, cuz they leave that sticky residue.

I like to give myself an iso enema and fart-blast it in. Mind you the lysol wipes work far better. Never tried to ass blast that in. Prolly not something that shud be done daily.

As the kids say, weird flex but ok. Seems a bit unnecessary but to each their own I suppose.

I've got all the stuff to make one I'm curious if other people would be interested as well before I do it. They costs over $300 from what I've seen and you can make one for about 30 bucks

I bt of advice when building a flow hood, apart from keep your clothes on is, make sure you treat the wood you build it with.
2 weeks ago 10 plates had black mold, checked the FH and low and behold there was a little bit of black mold growing on it. FFS do not allow the thing you build to make the thing you want to get rid using the thing you built in the first place....... Lesson learned, ive bleached the walls, painted everything with mould resistant paint and sorted it out.
I always have a problem finishing any job no matter how large.

Right?! All this time of messing around with spores and cultures. I should have just gotten some seeds.
What was the general consensus on the foil\no foil debate with SFDs the other day? I've still been using it but if I didn't have to that wouldn't be so bad and I'm about to prep a bunch of WBS jars.

I'll put another vote in for no foil. Pretty much exactly what mushboy said. Only for media bottles. Or tools/utensils.

Foil is NOT necessary when filtered with SFD. I can promise that. I don't know about other filters though. The only time i use foil is when i want to bring something out of the PC while maintaining sterility.

Excellent. Thank you all. I'm testing some of modified lids also on this run so just wanted to double check beforehand in case kids fail I would know it's not because I left foil off.

Nice, good to know being foil-less isn't a problem with SFDs. Poly is the same way. Haven't used foil with my poly lids in over a year

I just ran 4 unmodified lids and they finished 1 day later than the ones with SFDs. And I screwed the lids down as tight as I could.
Nobody replied going to quote myself, curious what you guys think. Might have to make my own thread this one moves so quick it was hard to get replies for this :shrug3:

do you think that grey wispy spot is just thin mycelium, or do I have hidden mold showing itself? some other spots like that ended up growing in thicker and looking whiter but IDK. maybe I'm just going paranoid.

If you blow the photo up (zoom in fully) you can see pretty well the difference, the strands of mycelium on the greyer spot are really, unorganized
