I think he was talking about the meaculpa guy. I thought the same at first and had to double take.
obviously dude was a troll considering the user name Me a culpa . not MEA . or maybe it was suppose to be a pun
I believe " Mea Culpa" is actually Latin for "it's my fault" or "through my fault".

I dont modify the lids so they stay loosely screwed on. The foil keeps everything sterile underneath so when I open my PC I twist the lids tight I dont have to worry about anything sneaking inside the lids.

Nooby here, but there is a ban list. Banlist Oh! and what is "unapproved puppet" ?
Caps is not on the banned list.

How are these jars looking? The myc is a lot more whispy than I’ve had before and I think that’s what’s making it look more grey than white in some areas. Does it look clean to y’all?

Same question. The wbs was a little too wet but doesn’t seem to be a problem.
I still have a hard time differentiating between bacteria and just regular wet spots. Guess it’s time to take clean spawn seriously now that I have agar.
Replyom those look pretty good to me.

I hate running out last minute to find tinfoil when I discover that a large percentage of my old foil caps are torn or otherwise comprised from over usage. I've never made a run without it, but I can probably trust their statements on the matter. I've never liked fucking with the foil.

I get like 50 or so pastys in my presto and I'd say maybe 1 out of 3 runs gets too much water in it

Camera93 said: Does bacteria grow directly with the cube myc? I have seen plates that are obviously contaminated with bacteria, but in those pics it takes over half the plate and looks slimy.
Some of my plates get this almost invisible ring of myc just ahead of my cultures, which I took to be just the leading edge, but could this be bacterial riding along? Its always symmetrical and consistent with the thicker more white growth of my cultures.
Here sort of an example of what I am talking about

Tho this plate ended up getting tossed cause it was mold lol but this is pretty much what I am talking about with the invisible/faint growth on the edge
I'm having the same questions. I believe it to be true that contams can grow within the mycelia, but I'm having a hard time diagnosing it. I started a thread yesterday on my odd looking growth. But I use softer agar to help it break up when I make LI..... Maybe that is making my clear ring on the agar...

Clear edges happen even on stiffer agar sometimes. Not all bacterial growth is obvious. It can be hidden and riding along with the myc. I'm not convinced that the "clear" leading edge is caused by bacteria at all. Best bet is to make a transfer and see how she does. You might even end up going to grain while slightly insecure and seeing how she does on grain. Additional, you can give her a shake at 90% and see how she recovers.

Thanks Verum. I'm so curious about this because I believe I've had some contams riding along with my mycelia for a while (I was using one strain for years) but it was subtle... It would always recover from a shake. never had a smell. But would make every single tub mold at or just after 1st flush. Thats why I'm starting over from spores and hyper analyzing these plates.

I've been having the SAME GODDAMN PROBLEM!!! Driving me NUCKING FUTS! Plates look good, jars look good, subs look good, first flush looks good, then CONTAMS! Actually, I'd say only about 30% of my subs get to a first flush. Most look like they colonize well, then tam out before first flush. Breaks my heart . I don't know what else to do.

Try more fae with thinner dryer subs and mist as needed, bottom water if pinset is fat , I’ve seen super nice spawn trich out just from shit conditions and overhydrated subs and I’ve seen relatively shitty spawn do alright if fae is maxed out almost to the point of dryness
Edited to say: also some genetics just require super particular conditions to fruit or do well and sometimes youre better off cutting your losses and going back to spores or a different clone.

Maybe try using more spawn and less bulk too, and slightly lower temperature. I’ve gotten good flushes with pretty bad spawn doing 1quart of sub to 1qt spawn. Usually hits full colonization in a few days so there’s not much time for contams to establish.

I have had better luck with dryer subs, with help from Caps, who is a big advocate of such measures. But I can't help but feel that my spawn is contammed with something piggybacking the mycelia. For the past month I've traced all early mold to a kernel of grain. But man, my spawn colonization looks good, smells good, recovers good. Someone once said mycelia can get sick. Maybe mine was.

Haha yeah because caps loves oats and IME oats are always a little bacterial. I was growing with them for the past year and thats why I developed that method. Switched to wheat/ rye and millet for master jars recently and I’m never going back, everything just looks so much better. I’ll pay the extra couple bucks a bag for spawn that looks better every time no problem...

Thanks, I haven't tried going far enough to the dry side of the spectrum yet. Will do for my next few tubs.
