Ok so I posted a while back in this same thread about a batch of food coloring I got. I had previously been using the same brand which worked great. The new batch I got the colors where very off and concentration is shit. So instead of 2-5 drops per 500ml agar I have to use 15-20 and the colors I get are nothing like they are supposed to be. So 20 drops of red gave me very light pink. The yellow doesnt work at all it wont overpower the color of agar. The blue I'm lucky to get a slight tint. The Colors just seemed VERY watered down. Food color is not even necessary but this batch just pissed me off like it barely had enough dye in it to change the liquid in the bottle. So I tossed it. I should have just spent the extra couple bucks to get the good one from the start. The tip I posted was more about not being a cheap bastard than about the food color.

Lol I see Iβm not the only one who went for the neon. This is perfect cuz Iβve only used red and purple so far, the only colors not posted yet.
Iβll be back with a pic in a second.
They look way brighter in person but you get the idea.

Iβm starting to develop my dish label system. I try to keep it simple just type date and transfer.
Like right now Iβve got three tissue samples from one PE fruit. Theyβre PE-C-A 12-9 which is penis envy-clone-A. So then I have b and c also. Then when I transfer itβs PEC-A-T1-1215. I go back and forth on labeling past that. I have a few where I took multiple T1s and added t1a, t1b and so on but that gets a little insane if youβre expanding past a couple dishes.
Buying the smallest tip sharpie I could find was a huge help.
I had a peuw culture that wouldn't throw spores. I'd let it grow till the caps flipped up.

lol ya as with damn near everything else in life you seem to get what you pay for. just take it as a lesson learned. but whats always funny is we all have done it and went the cheap route and fuckin knew we were getting garbage from the start but yet did it anyway and then got mad at ourselves lol

I'm making some grain water agar. I decided to fill up another jar with grain water minus the agar plus some glass to make LC. Put a SFD lid on top and am now PCing:

So once that LC jar comes out, I'm good to just put a wedge of agar in it? I'm planning on using this one:

I'm just going to open the lid in a SAB and drop the wedge in.
Hopefully I'll get a successful grow going here soon. Then the plan is to take a clone and start doing a journal.
Happy New Year Everyone!

My guess would be cut a little wedge from somewhere in the 6-7 range and drop that.
Or anywhere 1-5.

Yea I agree there is a pretty promising looking section around I wanna say 6:30-7:30. I'd transfer that section to a new dish and see if you can't get a nice uniform growth before going to LC.

I'd transfer that bad boy a time or two before going LC. You may get away with well prepared grains but LC need that clean clean.

Forsure! Can I throw the jar in the fridge leaving the foil and everything on it while I wait? Or just use water from the next time I do grains?

I'd make up a new one. I mean I'm sure it would still work but with lc being as finicky as it is I wouldn't risk it.

Has anyone ever used one of those cheap sous vide sticks to hold temperatures on a media bottle for pouring agar?

That will work fine for a water bath for agar. I dont have a sous vide yet but I'm definitely going to buy one eventually. They are pretty cool I want to cook a steak with one.
