I still make slight tweaks to my notations but for the most part it's variant abbreviation and date. For plates I include T1,T2,T3...
E.G. AA+1230 for Albino A+ nocced on December 30th
As I transfer them, I keep the original date name and add a T#

When I spawn a tub, I keep the date name and write the date of spawning tub on the lid.
E.G. AA+1230 0114 if I spawned on January 14th.

This is why I like using painter tape for labeling. Just peel it off the jar and slap it on the tub.

For G2G, I write the date of noccing the jar and keep track of which jar it came from in notebook.

Check out my Book of Genesis link in my sig and you'll see more complex examples of how I used to track transfers.

It seems like there’s a lot of bacteria problems with oats in particular.

What’s the benefit of using them assuming they’re more prone to contamination?

Is it mainly for people doing large scale grows where once you master prep it’s significantly cheaper than wbs?

Just price and availability. They work for alot of people. Personally dont like oats. Still use them though lol.

If theyre all you can get or super cheap use them, but IME they almost always look at least slightly bacterial even when the grain going into it is perfect. I did a run recently where i used the last of my oats mixed with my wheat and the straight wheat bags just look waaay nicer everything else was the same. Theyre also more voluminous by weight. The same sized bag full of wheat or rye has about 10-20% more grain by weight. Thats reason enough to switch if you can get anything else for a comparable price. Hell I’d pay double just to see nicer looking spawn, even if its just for my own piece of mind and the bacterial looking oats are actually clean IDK fuck oats.

I think $78 is about the best price we'll find, especially for Celltreat.

 I hardly even label anything after master jars. And I have absolutely no paper (or digital) records of anything. I put stick notes on shelves For bags and jars and use dry erase board for tasks so I dont get sidetracked. Only thing I need to know is the next step, only save clones that are good and typically only run 2-3 varieties at a time and try to pick distinctive ones.

Maybe but I transferred a wedge of agar to each jar, and they are all having the same problems. I'm going to see how these next jars do

Oh man, that pic speaks to the programmer in me haha. If you get a thread going, or maybe a journal? That'd be something I would totally follow.

Oh totally, char the shit outta it, and my handle. Makes me feel safe and warm.

Wow, y'all keep track of shit. I jst sharpie the variety on the jar lid, plate, bin, or box. I dnt see dating things. Possibly cuz i cud only really concentrate on two varieties at a time. Not like i had a lab full of shit that all looked the same.

All my cultures are clean but jars look bacterial. I'm switching back to WBS. Oats is cool but wbs was more forgiving.

Lol man oats got a bad rep.

Any reason not to use 35mm petri dishes?
They are cheaper.
They are smaller.
We transfer before the petri is fully colonized anyways.

Only thing I can think of is edges scare me I always feel like edges are where the nasties hide out. Also probably wont be doing three transfers to each dish anymore so that's a downside.

Should I go for the 35x15s?

I'm just going to wait and go with some 60mm dishes.
This is a pretty good price for a case though last one available.
You get 960 petris per case for $89.
https://www.amazon.com/Celltreat-229638-Non-Treated-Sterile-Working/dp/B00BKAI2T0/ref=mp_s_a_1_1?keywords=229638&qid=1577775886&sr=8-1
I just think they are a little small for my needs I can be pretty slow getting around to doing transfers and if I ever have a tam outbreak I want a little wiggle room to try n outrun it.

There's not much to debunk it was documented enough and in most cases shows it can help speed colonization.
