Actually boxes inside a mono is a fantastic way to do it. Seems to work better than grocery bags or jst the lid.

Shoe boxes, no lids in monos. They are ex mono tubs but I wouldnt bother with holes anymore. It gives me a chance to test if having a hole makes a difference. First flush, definitely not, second ...........not sure yet.

Ok so I’ve been wondering this for a while now.
When the mushrooms dump their spores how do the tallest ones still end up with spores all over the cap??
Doesn’t seem like there’s enough air current to carry them up and over so they can land on the cap.
At first I just thought the taller ones were covering the lower ones and assumed the biggest shrooms would have clean caps but that’s not the case.

It is one of the coolest aspects about mushrooms to me. I love looking at the patterns on the caps. Like a fungi Rorschac test.

I like to open the jar submerged in bleach water (1 cup to 1 gal), which is overkill but makes me feel warm and fuzzy inside. If you want to PC them to kill things, that's totally fine, also overkill. I'd probably go an hour.

Totally agree, the patterns from RW are especially pretty!

I never go too long between pouring and nocing. I let them sit unwrapped in SAB for 24 hours to cool and condensation to dissipate. Then I just leave them there until used. SAB is in a room that is only used for myco work so door stays shut and no air currents other than me walking in to do work. I know a lot of people put them back in sleeve or ziplock bags. I'm clumsy and fuck though and in trying to put plates back in sleeve I end up knocking lids off. Only plate I've had contams while sitting in SAB is the plate I left the lid off as a test. Have let them sit for as long as a week without issue.

Gonna try this leaving them unwrapped in the sab like others suggest. But with SAB I have been pouring and wrapping the plates for later use. I do 60 at a time and that gets me through a month without having to pour more. In flow I'd pour and put them in gallon baggies.

Depends on when I plan on using them. If it's a few days away or more I just wrap them and stack them in a tote. Otherwise I just leave them in the sab

Does anyone still dunk grains b4 spawning? I do but 50% im only getting 1 flush b4 contamination. The first flush is always banging but wanted to get your opinions.

7 jars noc'd on 12/14 from MS syringe. First 5 were marked 2 days ago to monitor growth. They look good to me but really appreciate an experienced eye. The last 2 jars were shaken @ 30% last week and will be trashed.

I realize MS>G is not the preferred route and dont expect perfect/multiple flushes. I have some agar plates in the works as well.

I do! Have yet to see any contamination post-spawning (after ~20 shoeboxes), even after 4 flushes. I do pasteurize my sub, which is coir+verm. I definitely think the soak helps initial colonization, but haven't run any tests to confirm.

Still dunk? When did we start
dunking grains never made sense to me considering we spawn the grains to water filled substrates

Seems like you've got a decent eye, lad. Last two are bacterial, everyone else looks fine.

I used to but its am extra step that takes time. how wet is your sub when your spawning these soaked grains? just soaking them shouldnt cause contamination so there may be another issue at play
what mushboy said. just make up the difference in your sub
