Kept looking found a truck wash out that sells manure. Problem is it is a mix of cow and pig shit. They told me its maybe 25% pig shit at the most. It is all washed into a big ass lagoon or pit until the pit it filled then it is scooped out and spread in a field to dry. Once dried it is loaded and hauled off to be sold as fertilizer. So my question is.. does the pig shit completely rule it out for substrate even though it's a smaller quantity and its washed into a pit where its stewed then dried. Or is it best not to mess with it? I'm guessing it's no good for my use but thought I'd get some opinions.

I'm sure there are people in areas where you could get permission to collect it without them asking too many questions, or to do so without being seen or noticed. However, in my area, it would be ill-advised to wander onto someone else's farm, especially at night, and just start looking around for stuff without them knowing or approving. Good way to end up with a whole lot of rock salt in you

Why would you say there is such a big difference in growth between these jars? Both knocked 13th of december with clean agar. Neither jar shows signs of contamination.
Jars are a bit dirty on the outside, forgot to add vinegar to the pc

I'm not sure how the shit trade works where you are but here in PA I got 5 different horse farms that will let me take as much as I want for free. Aged hpoo with the bedding mixed in is the kind you want. I'd steer clear from pig shit it's got some real nastiness in it. You can call up some farmers or connect with them online, the biggest pile of shit I ever seen was at a horse racetrack, it was an actual shit mountain

Pig shit is really similar to human shit. And there are some diseases that can infect humans too.
Iād stay away from that probably. Or at least make sure its really well aged and pasteurized, probably wanna mix in some straw and wear gloves and a respirator dealing with it pre pasteurization If you do go for it. I bet you can find something better though.

Im sure if you mixed enough straw into human poo and pasteurized it properly you could get some fruits. that doesnt mean that I would ever ever try it. pig shits nasty

I mean once its pasteurized its completely safe, but Iād probably go with straw and worm castings before I started growing with any kind of omnivore poo, strictly put of an abundance of caution and the yuck factor. Makes killer top dress for an orchard but I would let it compost for at least a year before putting in new my veggies, or till it in at least 3 months before planting.

I am doing my initial grows where I attempt to figure out "how to get a canopy". Let's keep in touch on PM with this. This will be pretty much non-stop semperviva grows until I figure out how it works.

Hahahaha I'll pass on both. I really wish it didn't have the hog shit in it. I know the workers maybe I'll have them scoop me up some cow shit and leave it seperate.

Multi-spore, LC or agar slice inoculation? If it MS then maybe just luck of the draw. Otherwise, my guess is uneven moisture dispersal.
