Who puts food coloring in the agar and why. Will it help you spot bacteria or something? I've tried it a few times on my first grow with red then got a red mold and decided to keep it as clear as possible. But I'm still open to learning the things I have missed along the way if anyone wants to share.

If you're using PDA food coloring helps to hide all the cloudy/flakey/chunky matter in it and give it a more uniform look. I feel like it helps with making contams more noticeable with pda. With other clearer types of agar, like LMEA, it doesn't matter much.
I personally like using different colors as markers for inventory reasons. For example, I accidentally wipe off my sharpie on my jars/plates often when using iso to sanitize them for SAB work so I can look at the color and determine what's what easily that way. Or using colors as a way to organize which plates are oldest/newest.

Ohh. Color coded. I like the sound of that. Do you have different cultures on different colors? I'd like that. I hate labeling stuff. That would be a sure fire way not to mix stuff up. Fuck I might start doing that.
Sometimes when making multiple transfers of different cultures they can get mixed up before I lable them. This way I know red is x yellow is y green is b. Got to buy a box for Christmas cookies anyway.

PDA accepts color well. MEA will look decent if you drop to 1% nutes. I like using blue. Blue is i believe the rarest occurring color in nature. Not a great deal of blue contams out there.

Shit I use a different color on every batch. Mix them and everything. The contams that are hard to identify are hard to identify no matter what color the agar is changing the color doesnt make it harder or easier imo. I like to use a different color every batch to tell the old from the new. If I forget to label sometimes I can figure out what it is bu checking wedge color and what not I have all different color and shade plates.

I do the same but when I use green and forget after the jar shake i sometimes have a homer moment when I notice a bit of green and freak out. On closer inspection I realise it green agar........ D'oh. Green is my favourite agar colour by the way.

- Doing a test of a new LC attempt on a small substrate
- Remade 2 bag brf bags that contamed and inoculated them with
colonized popcorn kernels

- Also spawned 100% post-shake popcorn to coir, excited to see how this turns out

- First signs of germination of cyanens and azur on agar

Sumena bitch! I searched vented petris, agar tek, petris!
Damn that's the exact thread I needed!
"You want vented dishes, and then wrap with parafilm to allow for filtered gas exchange. With non-vented dishes, you run the risk of stalling due to lack of O2 and high CO2. With non-vented dishes, you can easily crack an edge to allow for gas exchange and then wrap with parafilm. Some brands of non-vented dishes will still allow a bit of gas exchange because the lid never fits air tight." RR
"LDPE based plastic wraps such as Glad Cling Wrap is a good substitute for Parafilm. " BlimeyGrimey

Some sellers have an FAQ section where I have read that by default most of the petris are considered vented (most of them don't completely seal anyway as far as I've read - experienced TCs here have also mentioned that).
Unless it has been explicitly stated otherwise you should assume that the petri is always vented. The most common models are with 1 or 3 vents.

Ive been wondering about the cultures getting air when they are wrapped in plastic wrap. It takes me about 12-14 days @ 70F for a transfer wedge to reach the edge on average. I always wrap in normal kitchen plastic wrap. Is that what others are experiencing with parafilm? Also, does parafilm do better with condensation?

If one where to harvest with the intention of better quality and flavour. Such as for example easier dehydration with less risk of breaking the mushrooms and enhaced appearance. Would you harvest the big ones now? They have just broken their veils and are beginning to sporulate.

In regards to the petri wrapping of film.... Its my understanding the amount of layers has an effect. I do two layers of saran wrap. My GT cubes colonize the whole 90mm plate in about 10 days.
I hear people are wrapping a dish with many layers in the stead of doing a slant. Thats my plan from here on out.
