 Anyone see a culture do this thick of a top layer before? I made the mistake of not testing a variety out (mazzies) before going to tubs. They all colonized with this thick layer on top. I was pretty pissed, because was sure nothing was going to happen. Now they are doing this:
 Super surprised they pinned and came up from below. At first thought it was contaminated with bad bacteria. But everyone of the tubs did exactly the same thing. Thinking that the variety has this growth characteristic. But haven't seen it before, so maybe someone else has?
I have, maz isolate, fucker grows myc like crazy, all over the place. Thought I had more pics. They wouldnt grow full canopies, mostly bigger fruits. I tried casing at 100% colonized and different sub ratios, and nothing tamed the crazy growth.

Haha, thats great, it just chews up casing as well, as much fae you can give it without it drying, if it gets matted it really underpreforms, maybe a really high spawn ratio could help, like 1:5 or more, just a thought, she will pump out some fatties for sure

Golden halo does that too. I don’t even think it’s worth putting a top layer on golden halo.

Or maybe let it consolidate for a while before fruiting? Not sure if that was done here or if people always fruit at spawn these days tbh.

Transfered from this dish. It was the fastest growing of the 3 i had. I dunno why mycelium grows so translucent on my agar, i suspect is the non organic "toasted" BRF i am using, unfortunately it is the onlyone i can get my hands around

this one cant even be seen

And some galindoi growing reaaaly slow, any thoughts?

Have a nice day! These are my last petris, i am beginning a journey with no pours due to money problems!

My maz are crazy aggressive as well. Had one quart hit 100% from syringe in under 10 days. I’ve gotten mostly smallish shrooms but from less than a quart of spawn I’ve had three flushes totaling over 400g altogether so that’s good by me.

quick question ; what's the problem from taking a clone from a cloned culture jar?
this jar did pretty good and i took a clone because i lost the dish ; should be fine , right ?
this is the culture pinning right now ;
it's thai from a print a very generous user sent my way; finally got around to do something with it ;
thanks again !

I think it’ll be fine for at least a few generations. I don’t totally get all the genetic stuff but I know you can’t keep doing g2g indefinitely. I’m pretty sure you’ll get a bunch of good generations before it starts to gas out though. Like more than you would prob ever end up doing

Why would there be any problem? you could even pick a grain from that jar and put it on agar. If it is a clone even better!

The idea is that cultures get older and older as they.... get older and older. Just like humans and plants. Cell division takes a toll. You'll be fine though. Don't count on taking a clone of a clone of a clone.... Though. Eventually (although i don't know when) you'll run into a tired old, weak ass, half dead grandma of a culture.
If you where cloning humans in an attempt to secure marathon winning genetics, would you go to an old folks home or a high school?

What are the requirements for a master jar? Is it okay to use a 100% colonized popcorn jar for transfers to other grain/brf/popcorn?

The requirements are that the jar is 100% colonized and 100% cube myc. Never g2g with a jar that you aren't absolutely positive is clean. Beyond that, it mattereth not. You can dump it into anything you want.

What type of tool are you using when you G2G?
What carries the kernel/myc

No tools. Carefully pour from master to receiving jar.
The most helpful tip I ever received was - right before the transfer - turn the master upside down for a second. This allows you to transfer by spinning the jar rather than shaking it. Basically get the grains as close to the lid as possible before opening the lids.
One of the TCs has a really good video of g2g...can’t find it now though. Help, anyone?

@feldman you just pour from one jar to another? sounds very hover-y
@verum
grains stick to each other by the contact of the mycelium.
i gonna need to use something to dislodge or remove a popcorn kernel or other grain with
I will use a scalpel

That's like cutting water.

Why would you cut something that pours freely?
