Hard to tell precisely from pics but looks fine. Looks about a week or so in. Looks kinda dry on surface. May need to restrict fae till you see knots.
Thanks for the input. It's an unmodded tub so I'll keep the lid on normally for now. Here it is now, 36 hours after the previous picture.

I have another tub but I applied the top coat of substrate a bit uneven. Hoping that one evens out a bit.

I have the same one it works but sucks for thicker viscosity fluids and magnets are a little weak so it will throw the bar at too high speeds. Overall pretty good for the money and will work for lc. I'm going to probably end up modding it eventually.

This is the one I bought. The magnet it comes with it great. I bought a bag of smaller ones that still work great but don't thrash the colonies around.
Gizmo1 have you ever tried a triangular stir bar? They're designed for chemical reactions that have lots of sediment. It kicks stuff up off the bottom and it cuts up chunks like a lawnmower blade.

Haven't tried it bro I want to eventually get some more stir bars but haven't gotten around to it yet. The hexagon shaped ones are supposed to be really good too but they are kind of expensive. I want to atleast get a couple more even if they are the same as the one I have now that way I could leave them in the media bottles when I freeze them.

Would you consider this bacteria or just a wet grain pussing against the side of the jar?
Its been like this for a few days, not that i worry much about screwing a grow. But would love to be able to identify it. Note that there is some condensation in the jar from the agar wedge (that now looks like a piece of paper)

First time running clean spawn and i cant wait to fruit it! My last first flush grew small fruits because of an over field capacity coir.
But this one will rock!!

Wouldn't normally post something as obvious/simple as this, but I need some quick reassurance from people with more experience. Contam rate has went up noticeably here recently, and some that I thought were clean actually weren't. So I'm trying to figure out where the issues are arising from primarily. That said, these plates are clean, right? Poured 3 day's ago and put some transfers on them. But wanted to get opinions while they're still essentially blank to know if contams are getting in potentially before even taking transfers.

 Thanks y'all

Due to having soo many jars colonising im beginning to not worry if one grain does not colonise or a few of the top grains are bare. Does anyone else have a view on this?

Gan - Does the sharp increase in contamination rate coincide with any changes that have been made? Pay particular attention to airflow. Also, i let my plates sit for two weeks b4 clearing them for use. I've seen shit show up two weeks after pouring.
Psicomvb - ACAB!
Edmunter - If im spawning it i'll let one or two hard to colonize grains go, but if it's for g2g it must be tits. If i knowingly g2g less than optimal shit i cud bet green money it will erupt into a bacterial epidemic.
UIO - I increase FAE substantially when i see the first pin.

Pins usually. Just donβt give it too much because you can stall the Pinset by letting it get too dry. Just introduce FAE at pinning and lightly mist the walls or bottom water if it starts drying oit

Hey people, I have a troubleshooting / "am I in trouble" question. I'm doing my first ever horse poo bulk grow, using Roger Rabbit's bulk recipe. I used field aged poo, did a proper pasteurization cycle in a water bath, babysitting the substrate with two thermometers (one on the bottom, one in the top center), and the substrate never reached 170F, but stayed above 140 for two hours. Ph of the substrate was 6.5. I I let the substrate cool overnight, and made shoeboxes using a very high spawn ratio (1:1) to be absolutely sure.
Now, the boxes are 3 days old, the mycelium is starting to jump off the spawn in most boxes (in one it seems kinda lazy), but all of them smell... well, slightly fermented, a little sweetish-sourish-floral. It's not a bad smell, but not the pure mushroom smell of a colonized jar or pf cake.
Now since we're actively trying to preserve bacteria in the substrate, I'm thinking it might be natural for it to have this smell before full colonization, but it got me worried. My first try with this and all. Is it okay? Does it mean I need more FAE? (I'm using unmodified 5 liter boxes as almost all shoebox teks tell us, with a substrate depth of 1.5 inches.)

I like to introduce FAE at pinning generally. You just gotta pay attention to what your substrate is telling you to maintain good surface conditions. If you havent, check out this thread right here https://www.shroomery.org/forums/showflat.php/Number/23999053
