Not meaning to pick on you Shaper, but i see a lot of people not understand high/low when talking about ratios so i wanted to add a quick tidbit. The higher numerical number you have, is a lower ratio. Remember, a ratio is also division, and therefore also a percent. 1:1 is a higher ratio than 1:4, even though 4 is numerically higher. When changing from ratio to division, the denominator must be the total number of parts.
1:1 = 1 part X, 1 part Y, for a total of 2 parts = 1 ÷ 2 = 50% X, 50% Y 1:2 = 1 part X, 3 total parts = 1 ÷ 3 = 33.3% X, 66.6% Y 1:4 = 1 ÷ 5 = 20% X, 80% Y
So when making a 1:1 shoebox, we use quarts as the "part" and we will combine 1 quart spawn with 1 quart sub, for a total of 2 quarts. The ratio is 1:1, but to say what percent it's 1 quart spawn ÷ 2 total quarts.

I have also gotten up mid session, left the room for whatever reason and came back and resumed work after re-gloving
How shooty is that practice, and could/is it contributing to the green satellites I've been getting on transfers?
Nah, that's pretty okay. I get up and move around all the time (although walking deliberately slower than normal, especially before i sit back down), and i'm at about a 5% contam rate, which i fully attribute to my crappy "scalpel" holding onto junk, and me bumping the edge of the plates when transferring. I'm not able to flame it very high because the handle gets too hot, and then i fumble the blade a bit, and it'll knock against the sides of the dish.
While i was typing, i see the others set you straight! I use my SAB dry, and also like to wait a minute or two to allow the air to become still again. The length of time it takes you to reglove and reiso is long enough. Be as cognizant about disturbing the air as little as possible, you'll be fine. Defs post a video, you never know what you'll learn. Shit, i never thought about flipping the petri lid over and laying it down until mushboy posted a video of him doing it. I've always been careful to hover the lid.

I see no good reason to stop working. Full steam ahead! If a bump to your box causes contamination, you need to reconsider a few things.

Contaminants would only bounce up if you were using a dry still air box. If you thought you moved the air round a bit wait the time it takes for air to settle.
I must say though before in the years ADFH Anno Domini Flow hood. I used to have days were it started badly , got worse and ended with me dropping my favourite culture in a jar with the scalpel blade just before I dropped all my agar plates... Loved days like that........

Hi Shroomen and Shroomettes! Just wanted to pick your brains about a couple agar related questions.
I have heard that contams like to live on the edge of the plates and I am curious if any healthy mycelium can be taken from a spot of growth that is close to touching the edge of the plate. The growth is even so I don't know if any area would be a potential candidate for a transfer.
I swabbed this plate 09/15 and it has been kind of dormant but I noticed these strings of growth that look kind of like some of the ideal growth on healthy plates (the veins stretching out from the fuzz). Are these characteristics of healthy mycelium or is it just mold hanging on for the ride?
Appreciate all the hep this community has shared with me!

Probably pushin 100lb of oysters with all them orders he's got. Runs 3 different color/variety plus Shiitake.
So my dehydrator shit the bed and I have a few fruits to harvest. The new unit is on the way from customer service but I'm leaving for 2 days tonight. I've read people refrigerate em in paper bags for a few days. I suppose it's either that or make edibles. I wanted to save my stones for truffle truffles which I could add these fruits to, or perhaps I could make a mini batch of shroomy bears for microdosing, which I've not tried before. Any thoughts or recommendations? I'd prefer to be able to add these to my dried mush stock, but shit happens right.

Since it's two days, maybe three, paper towel + paper bag in the fridge will be just fine. Disclaimer, i haven't done any actual experimentation, but i have had fruits in the fridge 4 days before dehydrating, and they seemed perfectly fine. I wouldn't push it much longer than that though.

Nothing. I keep going. Open a plate and bump the SAB and see what that does for fun. Definitely don't need new gloves, just iso. It's shoddy*, not shooty, FYI.
