If you all have something like trich or another mold sporulate on a plate, do you trash that plate? Is it possible to get a clean transfer since I assume there are contaminant spores everywhere?
Here's a RW MS plate for example

That plate is probably trash, because it also looks to have a bacterial satellite. Obviously you should TRY to transfer away from it but I wouldn’t be surprised if it pops up again a few ones in later plates.

That green mold is tough to get around, that stuff gets on everything when you open that plate up. Iv tried to transfer away from it in the past but the only good time is before it turns green.

You end up using less plates if you just throw these ones away I think, that shit gets everywhere for me. I could probably move slower in the sab and keep it from going everywhere but honestly I’m waiting to do any serious agar work until I’m working with dat laminar flow. Made a bunch of spawn up to get me through the winter with minimal time in the lab, finally got a work flow down without having to be completely present for 12 hrs a day

Yeah I have about 5 more plates germinating clean atm, so I'm gonna trash that one. But it made me wonder what could really be done if for some reason the only plate one had of a clone showed sporulated contams like that plate above. Based on what you all are saying, it may not be completely trash, but it'll be a pain in the ass.
When are you planning on buying/building your flow hood?

I should be working with laminar flow by the new year hopefully. Got a couple things in the works, just gotta make sure everything in life is in order before I drop the money and time. It’ll be done though no later than February 2020.
I’m not the kind to go and spend full price on a filter and blower and wood and be assed out for groceries and rent. I’d rather take my time and get the best deal possible for quality parts and make something that is satisfying and non-generic. Just personal taste nothing against anyone who went with the standard cabinet. I most likely will too.
EDIT: anyone have anything to say about this abstract concept???: Spawning to FAR under field capacity (one drop) coir and a bottom water after Pinset?

Fuck im stoned. Forgot why i....ahha! Yeah man i thnk it's possible to transfer away from sporulating shit. I wud work super ultra mega slow and expect to spend some time with it b4 you give it a clean bill of health.

Why wud you do such a thing? Good gravy-marie, your working too hard. I can only keep up a handful of tubs and a few sweet genetics.

@jbgtaa.
thats pretty much what I do, dryish coir then bottom water 12-24 before harvest

What's the logic there? Increased evaporation rate to accelerate pinning then saturate to supplement fruiting?

I have high ambient humidity and get excess condensation that pools on the edges of the tub if i do field capacity. this sometime leads to pseudomonas bacteria aka blotch on the mushrooms around the edge of the tub. my theory is that my tubs pick up atmospheric moisture, I still maintain proper surface conditions, usually dont need to mist before first flush. It also "stacks" the step of harvest and rehrdration for second flush, which can save a small amount of time'.
tbh i get more aborts if subs are over-hydrated, but yeah proper timing is key, after pins start to mature and before anything starts to open up. and the coir shouldnt be so dry that it can't push out a flush without the bottom watering. a drop or two no stream.

Thanks aye plus!!
I have done what I mentioned on a lot of tubs, by accident because I didn’t prep them right, and noticed that IF MY BOTTOM WATER IS TIMED PROPERLYi get an amazing tall fat flush

Great day foraging. The biggest horse mushroom ever is my favourite. But with cyans do you just cut mature fruits as they all seem to get to a decent size but its fiddly cutting round them.

I'm very interested in this "properly timed bottom watering" I'm running very dry substrate and needing to rehydrate prior to first flush (I went too dry, no drop), and I'm finding some tubs (standard cube mono in coir) can take up 2 1/2 cups of water in 12 hours, and a nearly identical tub will only take 1/4 cup of water. It seems like there is a moment in the flush cycle that the mycelia can take it in. Has anyone else noticed this?

I would never go more than 15ml for a pre-flush bottom water. Youre asking for bacteria using 2 cups...
I think the logic behind it is myc grows better (and more safely) on a very specific type of hydrated coir. Alot of us are finding that drier coir is better and generally safer, and also contributes to nice tall fruits. Over hydrated sub causes tiny tiny fruits.
The problem is the fruiting stage moves all the water from the substrate into the fruiting bodies. If we prep our coir to bone dry, theres not enough water to carry the flush through to sporulation. This is where the bottom water comes in. I think if some smarter minds got on it they could probably come up with a formula for how much to bottom water in relation to biological efficency and what have you , but like i said..
Im just interested in it because i've seen some promising results in my own tubs. I know in text it sounds like a weird extra step that could be dangerous, but doing it in real life, its a very simple step and takes no time. And as long as the water is clean enough (i use brita water lol)and you dont use too much there shouldnt be a problem. If the sub isnt already dirty then your biggest worry would be mass abortion from overwatering, or using too little. Also if you do it at the wrong time, like when the pins start cracking, the fruits wont visually recover from my experience. They will still mature but the caps will say very samll, check this picture.
This tub was hours away from aborting, i feel like. All the caps were cracking... I gained about 2 inches from an 8ml bottom water to this 3qt tub. The caps stayed very small and barely opened, and i only knew it was time to harvest because the space between the veil and the cap was getting bumpy. The caps still dropped spores but obviously i didnt keep any prints because they were small as fuck lol If i had done the bottom water maybe a day or 2 before, i think i would have gotten a solid, even flush from the big area of growth. Just a thought
