You know what I think im drying too long too. Im using rye and they are shrivelling a little when I leave them too long. Unlike oats its the opposite effect i think. Oats will go bacterial if you dont dry perfectly, rye will stall if you over do it......

Agreed. Myc looks ok.
On another note I have 2 more cultures.
I think this one is ok

but this Rusty plate has something going on ive never seen before. I know this batch of agar was soft but I have a perfect ring around the culture that looks almost greasy. The 3rd and 4th a younger photos of this one.

The top one looks great, I would take more transfers from that for sure. The bottom looks grey not white which ime is just really weak mycelium? not 100% sure on that

This makes me think its either poor grain prep or contamination across 4 cultures that all looked clean..
12 days is pretty damn quick if using, say, 1/4 of a plate. That sounds like a super solid and well worked on culture. If my jars are too full and i cant shake it can go upwards of 20 from an MS culture, or even some of my clones, but speed isnt a trait i clone for so im rarely paying attention.
If its takeing longer than 25 days with 2 shakes, at 20 and 90%, then its probably bacterial.

They’ll turn out just fine I’m sure. Edmunter, millet is hella easy to prep for jars. Just weigh out your amount, rinse, and fill the pot with about 2 inches of water over the millet. The white millet I use swells like a bitch. Put on medium heat for 15 minutes Turn to high heat for 5-10, until the bite test passes Dry for around 5 hrs or overnight (up to twelve, I wouldn’t go longer but bod says 24 is fine)
It’s dumb easy.

anyone ever tried un-hulled rye berries? the hulled rye Ive been getting has too many cracked kernels for my liking. I imagine it being like a cross between wheat and oats for consistency..

Here are two pics of my current tub (BOD's unmodified 54 qt, just coir). I've had the lid flipped from the start, and haven't misted.
1) Am I correct that those small white balls are knots?
2) Does the surface look too wet? It isn't pooling, but it looks like it's pretty close... would any of you crack the lid?

Haha thanks. If you zoom in you can see zillions of little water droplets, most of them are literally touching each other and somehow not merging into bigger droplets/pools of water. And then the thicker, fluffy white growth is very dry, with no visible moisture -- from what I've read, I think that growth might be associated with bacterial spawn, but I'm not sure. If you look at the pics in my grow log you can see that the corners of this tub (the AA+ tub) are almost entirely that thick, matted growth. The corners are where all the FAE comes from in BOD's monotub setup, so maybe matted growth is associated with both bacterial spawn and too much FAE? I certainly don't know.
Grow log (also in my signature)
@GypsyCurse, thank you!
