I don't mind the soak, I don't like the drying it out part before PC. Wbs wasn't too bad but corn used to kick my ass. I could let it dry all day and it would end up wet and go sour. Other times id get one perfect jar and they're all prepped the same.
I'm trying out this recipe. I like that they give a ratio it was easy to scale down for some tester Half-pints. The PC is cooling right now.

I did no preps like 10 yrs ago my first time doing grains. after a 50# bag of rye I stopped cause it would leave the grains on top uncooked most of the time. the jars I had laying on their sides for the top layer cooked much better. perhaps different grains lend them selves to this technique better than others?

Can mycogone and acremonium blend with cube myc?
If so, can these molds be detected once they blend with myc?
Are there any other contaminations which blend with cube myc?
I dont know much specifically about these mold species, but i do know that once it has enmeshed itself with cube myc it is impossible to seperate.

Ok, so yes they will blend with the myc till it is impossible to separate. Gotcha!
Sir Cron, can you identify plates that have this shit blended in? Does it ever go unnoticed in your plates?
Trying to teach myself to identify contams on plates. Not so difficult when they are separated to some degree, but there must be a sign as to when some amount of contam has fately blended with cube myc.

It gets the job done well enough, just not quite perfect. If you use LC though it's less of an issue. Your ratio has to be dialed in to minimize dry/soggy grains on each end. Also quickly coolong thw PC with running water then immediately emptying and shaking the jars helps distribute moisture. Just ran 28qt nop-prep jars of winter wheat last night which I am G2G with white millet right meow.
It's probably best suited for millet though just because the other methods ar equally troublesome. Millet is a hard little finicky fuck.

Sorry if I’m a dumbass but:
Regardless of cost, is there any reason that tree nuts wouldn’t work to nurture mycelium? Just curious, not going to try this.

Hey everyone! I'm new to cultivation but I am currently experimenting with King Oyster. Regardless of what's being grown, a friend of mine told me to try sterilizing my substrate with colloidal silver instead of using a PC. I took some excess substrate and tested it and it appears to be doing better than all of my other fruiting blocks. So I'm wondering if anybody has tested this before or if this is completely unheard of in the world of mycology. The science behind it is that by adding the colloidal silver you replenish the nutrients that used to be found in soil naturally, though in recent years (or decades), acid rain, among other factors removed these nutrients making it more susceptible to contamination - also explaining why invasive weeds are such a problem in today's world. I was skeptical because plants and fungi are not the same (obviously) but it seems to be performing very well.
-------------------- I come here to learn about mycology.

Unmodified, just oats + coir, AA+, spawned 8 days ago
You can see how the corners look very dry
How does the middle look? The droplets aren’t very big, could the tub use some misting to hydrate the surfaces of the corners?
It’s interesting, though - are the little concentrated white spots the beginning of primordia? If so I notice that they have only formed on the dry edges of the tub, or perhaps more accurately, in between the dry areas and moist center.
We need a monotub surface conditions megathread.

Thats where it's gonna start pinning..in the mixed area between droplet center and puffy dry outside. Idk, mist if you like dude. See what happens. I generally shy away from it till after first flush cuz it makes shit look all fucked up and can cause issues i thnk.

What do you guys use to chop these glad cling wrap rolls down for petri dish use? How many pieces do you cut 1 roll into ?
I bought a 300 metre roll I haven't even opened the box but I imagine there must be a fuck load of plastic on this thing..box is huge for plastic wrap....is a real sharp knife gonna cut it or make some disastrous mess? is there something better to use?
If this works out it's a no brainer...300 metres cling wrap (33cm wide) vs. 250 feet parafilm (1/2inch wide) ...and the parafilm cost more per roll
Why didn't I try this earlier
