What do you guys do with your plates when they are no longer needed/useful? I have plates of nasty shit and ones that just didn't take off but along with all the sciency stuff I am throwing away I have started to wonder how suspicious my trash is looking.

I figure since I am doing full gallon bags and 9 per sterilizer that I should be going as long as possible without bursting/ turning the grain to mush.
So far 4 - 4 1/2 hours is about as much as I can do without visible change.
sound about right?
@ what psi are you running it at? I've been getting away with 2hrs @20psi when I load 9 bags in my aa75x. Im right at sea level too

Also, when doing A2G where do you cool your scalpel? the outside of the plate of just let it cool in the SAB
I usually have one dish specifically for cooling

So what u just make a score in the clean agar dish before you make your original plate cut for transfer?

Yes. And he's lying about resterilizing. He's kept that very same dish in the exact spot he put it in so many years ago. Why? Because cron can dish it out, but he can't it.

TedsDed, do you know how altitude changes sterilizing with a pressure cooker? Does the greater atmospheric pressure require more heat to reach 15 psi. Does the higher altitude make it harder to reach a high temperature because water boils at a lower temperature at higher altitudes?

pressure is lower at altitude. the 15psi read on the gauge is relative, not absolute pressure. absolute pressure is what determines what the temp will be when the water boils. so 15psi on the gauge at sea level provides a higher temp than 15psi at altitude. it takes real close to the same energy to reach 15psi in either case.
to compensate for reduced atmospheric pressure, the cooking pressure can be raised higher than 15psi somehow to increase the temperature to what it would be at 15psi at sea level, or time of cooking could be extended.
shadows, where'd that chart come from? it only kinda makes sense.

Maybe this is better to go off, the approximate increase in cooking time you need at which altitude?
The above chart and table below are both from https://www.hippressurecooking.com/pressure-cooker-psi-faq-the-stuff-you-didnt-think-to-ask/
above... increase by.. or multiply by.. 3,000 feet 5% 1.05 4,000 feet 10% 1.1 5,000 feet 15% 1.15 6,000 feet 20% 1.2 7,000 feet 25% 1.25 8,000 feet 30% 1.3 9,000 feet 35% 1.35 10,000 feet 40% 1.4

Regardless of what your gauge says, the rocker shouldn't rock until inside pressure is 15psi. The shape of the spout and rocker hole and weight of the rocker don't change no matter what elevation you're at.
That's my understanding of how the jiggler works but if I'm wrong then I'm wrong and welcome some input

we found in the manual for AA the recommendation to add 0.5psi for every 1000 foot elevation above sea level, so a recipe calling for 15psi translates to 17.5-18 for us at mile high Denver.
